Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am attempting to repair the ignition switch on my 99 Cab. I followed the excellent tutorials on here to swap the electronic switch. Try as I might I could not get the bottom small screw to turn. I was able to access the top one through the vent but could not get the bottom one after working on it for 8 hours. I decided to remove the entire silver metal ignition part, once I did that I had the screw out in 15 seconds. Now the problem Im having is in order the get the new switch and lock tumbler to seat, I need to turn the the mechanism one way, and in order for the retracting tongue that goes into the steering column to seat, it needs to be retracted, which requires it to turned the other way. To complicate the situation the key will not deploy or retract the tongue that goes into the steering column, I can only move it by turning the metal rod that goes into the electronic switch. Am I missing something? My hands and arms are like hamburger and Im really defeated. This thing has fought me at every turn. Any help would be appreciated.
