Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I just installed Ohlins and Tarett GT series sway bars in my 02 996. The front sway bar bushings do not fit in the brackets no matter what I do. The flat side on the bottom sticks out like 1/8 in. I tried using soap to lubricate the bushing so I would slid deeper into the bracket, but to no avail. I torqued them in anyway (seems like what others have done...) but the sway bar rotates really tight. Anyone else have issues like this with GT3 swaybars? Is there a different bracket that can be used? Thanks

POST 2Original post

So wait, are you installing an OEM GT3 sway bar that you bought from Tarett or one of their aftermarket bars called GT bars? My OEM GT3 bars bolted right in with the included OEM bushings. I'd guess you might be able to get a smaller OD bushing from Tarett, maybe they sent you the wrong ones?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am installing Tarett's aftermarket GT series swaybars. Not Porsche OEM GT3 sway bars, sorry for the confusion. I just looked the part up and Tarett calls it GT series. I haven't checked in with Tarett yet, as it is a weekend and I am pretty sure they won't respond. I was hoping to find someone who had installed the Tarett bars to see if they had the same issue.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14776446

So when you installed your OEM bars, did the flat part of the bushing remain flush with the half round bracket, or were they proud of the bracket? After you torqued the bolts down, did the bar move freely, or was it difficult to move?

POST 5Original post

I had the same problem with the GMG challenge front swaybar. Bushings wouldn't fit in the brackets. Even trying to just torque it into place, the brackets just flexed. I never found a solution. Fitment on the rear was perfect and I ran just the rear for several years. I recently went back to stock rear because the car was just too wild to be really fast at autocross. Looking to trying the front bar again but dreading having to deal with the bushing/bracket issue again.

POST 6Original post

Check to make sure it's not the red limiter rubbing and not allowing the bar to go all the way in. I had that problem on a '99 and had to grind a few mm's off of the limiter.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14779422

Checked this first, thanks. So stupid question here. The bar itself when installed but not attached to drop links should rotate without a lot of force, right? That is, it should be firm, but still rotate freely. Mine takes a lot of force to rotate, and resists moving at first, it takes almost twice as much force initially to start moving. If so, then I am going to try trimming the flat part of the bushings almost flush with the brackets.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14779778

The bushing is actually OEM. It fits the bar correctly, but similar to the poster above with the GMG bars, the bushing does not fit in the bracket. Fully seated, the flat side is about 1/8" proud.

POST 10Original post

That's normal. You are putting in a thicker sway. It needs to move but not necessarily easily. Torque it down and go on.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 14778271

They sat pretty close to flush and the bar rotated freely, well with slight drag but minimal.

POST 12Original post

I think the difference may be you are using the GT3 bushings and he's using C2 bushings. That's why I was asking for the part # off of the bushings. I've used the C2 bushings before but the GT3 bushings are only $16 each. http://www.autoatlanta.com/tinyresul...=550&width=875

POST 13Original post

My GMG bar came with red GMG-manufactured bushings but it was advertised as fitting both C2 and GT3 996s. But I had the same issue described- the interior diameter fit the bar just fine, but the outer diameter and the height was too much to fit in the brackets. If you just torque it down, you end up with significant deformation in the bracket, and on top of that my swaybar kept making audible contact with other suspension parts. Ultimately I put the stock one back in.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 14780445

The bushings I am using are OEM GT3 bushings. The part number ends in 9216. The C2 bushings end in 9214. I found the GT3 brackets online and they are only a couple bucks each, so I am going to start there and report back. I understand fully about a thicker swaybar being firmer, but the bar needs to rotate freely or it is not only not doing it's job, it is preventing the suspension from doing it's. The bushings as installed are so tight that it requires considerable force just to start the bar moving. It literally prevent my suspension from settling when I lower my car off the lift. That is too tight.

POST 15Original post

Agreed the bar should not be hard to rotate. According to Tarett, their GT bar should have the same diameter as the OE GT3 bar - 26.8mm. Have you measured yours? If the size is right, the GT3 bushings should work. Theres a 997 bat that is 28mm+

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 14781206

That's strange that it would be that tight. Hopefully the brackets will fix your issue. Blue Chip's car had Tarett bars and it was stiff to rotate them but not nearly that bad. I've got another set of Tarett bars sitting in my garage but my lift is occupied with a fully disassembled Cayman so it will be awhile before I could experiment with them. Tarett is by far my favorite aftermarket manufacturer. They make great products and Ira is excellent to work with. That being said, I prefer the GT3 front bar over theirs. Tarett's rear bar is fine though IMO.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That is the next thing I am going to check tonight, just occurred to me on the way to work. Possible that the bar was mismarked. I hadn't thought about this, since Tarett quality is always good. Agreed 100%.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wanted to follow up, to close out this thread. Turns out that for whatever reason, the bar was larger in diameter than normal. Installed and torqued to spec, it literally did not move. I sent Ira a video and Ira exchanged the bar for me. Just wanted to mention that Ira is really great to work with. He is the best in this industry that I have worked with, that is for sure. I know they sell a lot of these bars, and he said they haven't had this problem so I don't want anyone reading this thread to think they have a quality issue. I just got the lucky one I guess .

POST 21Original post

That's great. Guess I need to go ahead and measure mine to close the loop on this for me too
