Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

While flywheel was off, somewhat overkill, we replaced the RMS.
Leading evidence: 'Replace rms' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace rms' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I had him replace transmission fluid with genuine fluid I had on hand and do a four wheel alignment and a complete inspection.

We chatted about lubricants and Pete liked the 5W-40 Motul Porsche A40 product I have been using so after the work was finished, the engine was refilled with lubricant that I provided.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 03 C4S has 56k and around 19k since a crate motor from Porsche in 2009. I purchased it in November 2017.
After reading as much as I could and getting told more than once and very directly that dropping the transmission was the ONLY way to know, I had my local Indie (Performance Auto in Malvern PA) drop the transmission. Pete and Paul at performance are great, are enthusiasts, have a ton of experience and gave me great confidence and I will be using them again.
The IMS bearing is the larger single row that is not removable without the case being split.
As such, after much online research by me and getting three opinions including Pete's, Pete pulled the outer seal from the bearing. We chatted about lubricants and Pete liked the 5W-40 Motul Porsche A40 product I have been using so after the work was finished, the engine was refilled with lubricant that I provided.
While flywheel was off, somewhat overkill, we replaced the RMS. Clutch was showing signs of distress so we did a complete clutch kit including pilot bearing, clutch release arm and bearing guide. Slave was leaking so that got replaced as well. Pete buttoned everything up with new seals and updated hardware where appropriate. I had him replace transmission fluid with genuine fluid I had on hand and do a four wheel alignment and a complete inspection. Other than a slightly bent front wheel and the need for an accessory drive belt, we got a clean bill of health and heaved a big sigh of relief.
The drive back is about 30 miles on the interstate and the four wheel alignment made a night and day difference to the tracking and general nervousness of the vehicle. The shifting however is significantly improved both from the clutch which I had not realized was so heavy before and the new fluid.
Now the shift quality was so good, I decided to install a genuine 997 GT3 shifter and with a new clutch, new fluid and shorter shifts with no slop, its feels literally like it just rolled off production line. To me, and to others that have driven, its feels like this is how it should have come and not 'short' as such, just 'right' which Porsche must have realized with the changes to the 997.
Now the bills are paid, I am excited to just drive the darn thing if the snow ever stops in PA :-(
Next month I will be in Stuttgart and have a factory tour booked...be nice to see where it was born.

Good deal and nice to know there is another good indy in the area because im not too far from u. Ill be in stuggart in may visiting the musem and then heading to the Green Hell for some hot laps.
So I came to say:
Yeah this really surprised me after my new clutch as well.
BUT
Now I see there are already 3 guys in this short thread going on factory tours and all I can say is I'm green with envy.
Add another tour to the mix, I'll be there in September. Looking forward to your reviews/suggestions if you guys wouldn't mind posting when you're back.
