Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am having an issue on my 99 996. The fuel gauge drops to empty and the light flashes. It will do this for 10-30 seconds or so, and then it goes back to where it should be, but then it goes back to empty and flashing again, and then back to properly reading. The car has almost a full tank. It was stored for the winter months, and just came out of hibernation. The battery did die in storage due to the faulty ignition switch leaving the dash lights on, I don't know if that has anything to do with it? My questions are : 1.) Is there any system triggered by the fuel gauge reading empty? The car seem to run fine, but I want to make sure I am not going to experience some system kick in that affects the way the car runs or prevents it from starting. Can I just make sure it has gas and deal with the annoying flashing for now? 2.) Does anyone know why this is happening, and/or what the fix is for it?
