Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All! It's time, cam deviation has been getting very high and last oil change before winter storage had a very impressive accumulation of metal filings attached to the magnetic drain plug. So it's time to be proactive and go for the rebuild. Sounds like a number of people on this site have opted for the Raby stage II rebuild from 3.4 to 3.6 liters. I haven't read of anyone doing the Stage III with 3.4 to 3.8 plus head work and performance cams? Anyone done this that can chime in? I would really love to have a GT3 like fast revving motor in a '99 chassis, I think it would be great fun to drive and take for laps knowing I had a reliable solid engine.

I recommend you contact FSI and talk with Jake about what your objectives are for the rebuild -- how you'll use the car etc. He will then recommend the best build that meets your requirements--no less and, just as importantly, no more. I did exactly this about 5 years ago. His no-nonsense approach cemented my decision to have FSI do a Stage I build (3.6 to 3.8) on my '02 996 Cab, which I use for spirited day trips and a couple of long GT-type tours each year. The FSI engine continues to impress me after nearly 4 years of ownership--more HP, more torque, smooth as silk and bullet-proof reliable. I'd go with FSI again in a heartbeat.
