Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace gasket' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check more closely' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Wipe clean the area from which the leak may be coming from to identify the exact location.

Then replace the gasket if that seems to be the problem.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently bought 2001 996 tt. Not to go into detailed rant, but ive noticed a small, nickle sized drip on my floor coming from the transmission. Is this simply replacing the transmission gasket?? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated
Wipe clean the area from which the leak may be coming from to identify the exact location. You could also tighten up all the bolts holding the transmission pan, a loose bolt will cause a leak. Then replace the gasket if that seems to be the problem.
I think your tiptronic transmission is a Mercedes Benz 722.6 transmission similar to mk2 996.
The transmission is infamous for electrical connectors seal leak. It looks like a leak from transmission pan gasket but it actually fluid leaks from connector right above the pan.
Porsche does not sell the connector seal but you can get the part from Mercedes dealer. Here is the summary of this common connector issue: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/722-6-transmission-plug-diy/
Another leak that I had was from the rear (front in our case) transmission cover but mine is a C2. It might not be applicable to you as turbo has all wheel drive standard.
Thanks for the heads up. And thanks again for the detailed information. I will check more closely. I will get everything super clean and dry and then run it for awhile and see if i can get a more specific location for the seepage. Super appreciate your time to reply to my posting
Mine has been weeping for a number of years. Tackled the connector a few months ago, now it only weeps from one side (passenger side on North American cars). I have also replaced the gasket.
I was also informed by the Brits (spelling as per the original answer):
"This can be either the main gaskets or x4 of the rear bolts leaking through the threads , whilst this is technically the rear of the 2 gaskets leaking you can repair it just by removeing and putting silicone on the bolts then refitting .
x1 of these bolts is under the plate which is in turn under the gearbox mount.""
Easy enought to check as when you remove the bolts they will be covered in oil ."
Also, excessive play from transmission mount might cause the seal to weep.
Mine is a C4,
Wow. Great information. Seems like a very common problem. I think im going to take it a step at a time. First tighten the bolts and see where that goes, and move on from there. Thanks for taking the time to tell me of your exploits.
