Suggestion

If it's not too bad, you may be able to put an insert in to tighten things up, but it should really be replaced.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently changed out my motor mounts which turned out wonderfully and now am wondering about the transmission mount for my manual 04 C2. If my motor mounts sagged this much compared to the new what condition must the rubber of the trans mount be in? Are there symptoms and is this a dealer type of install? Ralph

POST 2Original post

It's not too difficult to check it. You'll have to pull some of the bottom plastics off, and stick a jack under the tranny so you can loosen and pull the mounting bracket so you can see the bushing. If it's the original it's a good bet it's going to be collapsed or ripped. If it's not too bad, you may be able to put an insert in to tighten things up, but it should really be replaced. There's a tool that will allow you to remove and replace it with the trans. in the car...Not cheap at around $300. There also a guy on here who bought one and rents it for around $75... Good luck

POST 4Original post

My motor mounts looked like yours. I wondered the same thing. So I installed a transmission mount insert (from Function First) and it made a huge improvement in how the car felt and huge improvement in shifting. When installing the insert it was clear how much the the transmission mount had sagged by how much I had to deform it to get the insert to go into it. I was amazed with the results, the improvement after the transmission insert was light years more noticeable than the new engine mounts. Note that my car is a 20K original mile car so just from age and sitting the trans mount had sagged a bunch. The downside is there is a bit of NVH that comes from the transmission insert. I installed the orange one (softest) but it still causes some NVH. It does not bother me b/c I don't daily drive the car, and even if I did it might only bother me a little bit.

In my 996tt the transmission mount made a bigger difference than motor mounts. I actually couldn't tell the difference after changing the motor mounts.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, didn't expect those answers, thank you... We're talking about these Nick?

POST 7Original post

Yes those. I got the orange one which is the softest.

The 997 TT mount is great IF you have a tiptronic 996, 997, or manual 996TT/997TT. Unfortunately the TT tranny mount doesn't fit manual 996's
