IDK why but Michigan Motorsports is consistently $192/case for DT40. Even with $10 shipping it's 20% off MSRP every day.
I am sorely tempted to buy the 55 gallon drum directly from Driven for $2,400 with shipping included = $11/quart...
Yeah I’ve bought 5 cases last year on the same deal but this year the initial price was $25 higher than last year so driven has driven me out for future purchases
FWIW:
For those owners that have been "driven" out of Driven oil higher prices, here are some alternatives:
Slakker Racing Dev. specifies certain oils for their engine builds. While Driven and Motul are on that short list, they also approve of "more common" and less expensive oils.
Street Use: Mobil1 15w-50 or Valvoline VR1 20w-50
Street/Autocross/DE use: Driven DI50 or Motul 300V 5w-50
DE/ Race use: Motul 300V 10w-60
I wanted DI50, but Walmart has Mobil1 15w-50 "very" low cost, and is easy to find anywhere. Wallyworld did have some Motul oils, but not the right ones. (Mentioned by Brandon Clark in 1 of the Slakker videos) So I just bought 2 @ 5L jugs of the Mobil1. You can use any other oils you like, but they do Not support the Slakker 2 year warranty.

All motor oil is more expensive. More specifically: Driven motor oils are made using a particular base oil, and the Iran war has sent the supply of that product into the sh*tter.

What is this component from the middle east oil fields that Driven uses in its oil.???
Google "Group III base oil shortage". I'm not a tribologist so I don't know how deep one has to go to declare something fully synthetic, or what base products are used to make the stuff that "full synthetic" oil is made from. In short it's confusing to me too. I think the short version is that even fully synthetic oil was once crude oil; it's just been entirely re-engineered at the molecular level.
That is true for Group 3 oils. But not for group 4 & 5.
Not to say group 3 oils are bad, they're not. some are very very good oils.
IIRR, Driven DT/DI a group 4 100% syn oil. As are the oils many prefer here on the forum.
Someone above asked about using the slang "Dino Oil'... its referring to fossil fuels oils, Or if you remember way back when Sinclair oil used a
Brontosaurus
as its mascot, we even have 1 on our forum...
All synthetic oil is made from oil pumped from the ground. It's just altered so much that the marketing guys wanted a term to describe that was not "Ultra Refined" since that term had already been taken so they called it Synthetic.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
