i replaced my front rotors and used oem sport pads.

I use Carbotech XP8 on all 4 corners with no fade at Mid-Ohio.

Suggestion
You mentioned that you are using track tires (r-compound), FWIW, you should have track tires to match the additional traction you have with the stickier tires.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In Texas I burned through a set of front break pads this summer after 2 events and six weeks of street driving on my '99 C2 Cab. Granted it won't be so hot moving forward but I thought I might upgrade the pads just for events. I change the tires anyway so it would just be another step in prep. I understand there is a factory upgrade pad for $220 from Sunset that covers front and rear that is a step up from the standard street pad. It looks like Pagid RS29's are >$500. Is this right? It seems like a no brainer to go with the factory upgraded pads from Sunset assuming the performance is close and at less than half the price. Are the RS29's the right ones or should I be looking at RS 19's?
Am I on track here? Please straighten me out.
Pagids are the answer. The 19's and 29's are very similar, the 29 being a newer formulation with a little more initial bite. Use Motul RBF 660 brake fluid and RS 29's in front and RS 14's in back on your car for better brake balance. You will like them. Be sure to bed the pads correctly though.
Stay away from factory pads for track time. You'll just eat through them.
Get a decent endurance pad [Pagid Yellow or PFC-06] and you'll be set for a long time - AND you'll have improved performance. As for Pagid Yellow, you won't be able to tell the difference between the RS19 / RS29.
As Bob said, make sure you take care of your fluid as well. I use Motul 600, but have used 660 in the past. There are a number of good choices here.

The stock BRAKE pads are inadequate for any sort of hard track driving. In a student group where you are learning the car they are fine. Depending on your style of BRAKING, you would be wise to invest in a set of track only pads. I can't image you would need anything more than a Pagid RS19 or PFC97.
Roy- go with the the pagid yellow r-29's, they cost but last longer. You'll like them.
Drop by when your order arrives we can swap pads and grab a cold beer.
I've been really happy with the Pagid Yellows (RS29s) on the track.
Brakes, like other safety gear, should not be skimped on just to save a few bucks. Pay the extra, buy the RS29s and don't look back! You'll thank us (I promise).
be sure to mention that to your instructor as your brakes are fading and something undesireable is about to happen... "well, at least the pads only cost me 1/2 as much eh?"
Stock pads (and fluid) are simply not built to cope with the heat and stress generated by track driving. Sure, a few high speed stops on the freeway.. but that's not quite the same now is it.
As others have said, Pagid Yellow (19 or 29) is the pad to go with for DEs and other track driving. If you're easy on the brakes, or are roughly an intermediate group driver, the Porsche Sport pads are a decent compromise,
-EDIT But you'll wear them out very quickly -EDIT
but one of the things I love about tracking Porsches is the availability of the Pagid Yellow pad. It's expensive, but they last longer than any other pad I've tried, with almost the bite and stopping power of a true race pad, and yet is more than livable between track events (though the noise can bother some). The dust is not that corrosive to boot. It really is an outstanding pad all around.
Just swapped out stock Textar for Pagid RS29 front and back. Had 2 days at the Nurburgring and couldn't be happier. A really progressive and 'solid' feel. Driving home I did get some low speed brake squeel but I don't mind. It sounds more 'motorsport' squeel than old bus anyway...
It seems like Pagid is the choice around here. I use Carbotech XP8 on all 4 corners with no fade at Mid-Ohio. Fluid too of course. The good thing is that the XP8 pads can be used on the street with minmal noise. I will change to stock pads for the colder months though.
I've used them on 3 other cars with good results. They are just under $400 shipped from a not well known vendor.
Since installing the Pagid yellows all aound, the car brakes so much stronger with no fade whatsoever. You mentioned that you are using track tires (r-compound), FWIW, you should have track tires to match the additional traction you have with the stickier tires. The braking power will blow you away....
You will be happy you spent the money...
There seems to be a consensus that Pagid is a great option. I had this same choice about a month ago and went with the Porsche Motorsports pads. I did a three day event at Mt. Tremblant with them. Very little wear and great braking. My instructror commented on how good they felt and asked what brand they were. As an intermediate driver I thought they were a good compromise of performance and price. They were good on the street initially, but after the DE they got really noisy on during street driving. Overall I was very happy with the purchase.
i replaced my front rotors and used oem sport pads. had a little squeel at first which went away quickly. did my rears about a year later with the same parts and squeel from the rear wont go away and is driving me nuts. had the rotors scuffed up.. didn't help. thinking about putting oem pads back on as the set up before worked fantastic on the track and dd use.
is it worth trying to bevel the edges of these pads? suggestions? thx
I found the cold bite of the motorsport pads to be better than oem stock. My first thoughts after installation were that I'd use them for all driving (DE and street). Once they got noisy I quickly switched back to oem stock for the street. I could tell the difference in cold bite immediately going both directions.
