Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had them replace the engine mounts and the starter cable that you guys have been mentioning from time to time.......kinda "while it's there" thing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've looked around on the net for a replacement starter and find that thee are at least three different config's being offered for sale as the "correct" part.........one has an elongated drive shaft........one has a very short drive shaft, as in just about having only the gear coming from the motor........and one has similar to number two except that the housing has an extended nose where the gear comes out.
Anyone have a pic of the real/correct one?
Well, you guys are far better than I! I tried to get the damned thing out but there's no way I could get to the bottom bolt without removing the alternator and a lot of other piping and crap. So I out it all back together and will take it to 'them" to do.
BTW, took me about 2hrs to get the first intake plenum back in, what a bastard of a job, but anyway, thanks to those who offered insights and assistance.
Best
Les.
Sorry to hear that. Yeah, it's a PITA job and you have to be patient. I know I used many long 1/2" drive extensions and a universal joint w/socket on the end to bring the whole thing out beyond the rear bumper so I could crank on the socket wrench. Once it breaks loose the rest is not so hard. Anyway, hope it is not too expensive to have "them" do it.
Just some quick feedback on the starter replacement......I had it done by a company called Freed Performance in Cumming Ga. They charged my $254 to replace my original starter with the one I got off Amazon. After having tried it myself I consider it money well spent.
Can't believe how the motor spins over now, much faster than at anytime I've owned it, now 6 years. Porsche dealer kept telling me there was nothing wrong, even though I told them it failed to crank after sitting for 15 mins when hot.
I had them replace the engine mounts and the starter cable that you guys have been mentioning from time to time.......kinda "while it's there" thing.
Also had them flush the fuel system with their potent fuel system cleaner.
Upshot of all this.......car starts easier, faster, runs smoother, less vibration.......what's not to like!
