Matter of fact can't find the explanation for a lot of these, even though i must've checked five different databases.
Leading evidence: 'Check five different databases' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'suspension option' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check five different databases' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Probably adding more confusion but my original engine number was M9603-68402240 however my engine was replaced by a PO and now has engine # M96/03SAT66575201.

I ran into a similar situation when I was looking at a 2004 C4S prior to buying my 40th AE.

Suspected cause
The car is also 10 mm lower than the standard Carrera so that is probably a suspension option.

Suggestion
I'd hate for any RL member to find their car was made by an unscrupulous seller using bits and pieces from other cars and try to pass it off as all-original.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just trying to resolve some conflicting information i am getting from two different sources as far as engine codes for the 40th anniversary cars. One source is stating that engine codes are just like for the regular Carreras M96/03-XXX while the other source is saying that the correct code is M96/03S ("S" being for the X51 package, because it was a standard feature on these cars) My car does not have the "S", M96/03-684 ........ Just wondering which is right? What do the other 40th owners see under the hood.
Also in my option list, on the same sticker, i don't see the X51 option either. Matter of fact can't find the explanation for a lot of these, even though i must've checked five different databases. This is what i found out.
C36 - Canadian Car (OK)
X99 - Natural Leather (OK)
680 - Bose Sound (OK)
XCC -
??????
XCD -
??????
XCE -
??????
XEA -
??????
XPG - Three-spoke steering wheel in aluminium look and leather
(ALUMINUM?)
XSC - Porsche crest in headrest
(ACTUALLY NOT TRUE)
XTR -
??????
XJ4 - Ignition lock surround in leather (OK)
XV1 - Leather vent cover (OK)
XX1 - Front floor mats embroidered 'Porsche' (OK)
X45 - Instrument dials matching interior colour (OK)
X46 -
??????
That's all of them. I don't know if it's a Canadian thing, and they don't match with the rest, but i can't find some of them, and some don't even make sense. Like i said no X51 package listed. And if you go to my album, you can see that there is nothing on my headrests. What does your sticker say? Is it similar to this or do all codes make sense? Thanks.
My 40th AE does not list the x51 either. The original sticker on the car says "345hp" and nothing about it being an x51 option. I believe the LSD is not listed in the option code either. These were 'standard' items for the car. (Actually now that I think about it, there's no option codes for the full leather either.)
Here's a list of the option codes from under my hood:
c02
x99
425
437
438
537
650
692
Thanks yoda, actually as far as leather, i believe the X99 covers that. It is defined as code for "NATURAL LEATHER" option, i have that one on my car as well.
650 - Sunroof (i have a sunroof as well but no code for it)
680 - Bose Sound (you don't have that code, but i am sure you have the sound system from Bose)
Just weird, I don't know if it 's because it's a Canadian car, but don't see the reason for it, since its got US VIN number.
What does you engine code start with? It's on the same sticker in between the option codes and the main VIN. It should say something like this M9603-XXX or M9603S-XXX. That's the only part that interests me. Thanks.
I figured out the x99 code after I did a manual look-up (originally used an automated look-up and it stated at x99 was some sort of vent!)
The engine number is: m9603-684
what's the "s" stand for in the in engine number?
I am starting to believe that is mis-information i got from this book
in regards to our cars. In that book it states that engine codes for the 4oth AE cars had an additional "S" in the code. M9603S as opposed to just M9603, and it says it's due to the X51 package being standard. But i don't have the "S" and neither do you, so i am starting to think that the book is simply wrong, especially since the Bentlyes 996 service manual have no mention of this.
Hey Nedster!
The last post by 2k3 was of little value. Ignore it. To suggest that because of your codes, the 40th AE was rushed any more or less than any other Porsche is absurd.
It's obvious that the 40th AE's sent to Canada (or where ever your 40th AE was originally sent to) have different codes than the ones we are using in the US. I looked at my Bentley manual and almost none of your codes are listed, but it has every one of my codes.
I recommend you contact Porsche and ask them. I asked them about our 40th AE floor mats and although they didn't have the answer I was hoping for, they did get back to me within a few days. Per a Porsche code website..."You can obtain the list of option codes for your car by contacting Porsche and requesting a "cardex" for your car". E-Mail:
[email removed]
My code is M9603-684 and then G9601-20.
I wouldn't worry about it not being an X51. Even the original window sticker doesn't say X51 anywhere on it. (at least not mine). But I know it's an X51 because the experienced tech at RAC that I just spent 8 hours with told me it was.
And as 40th Mike (who I bought my car from) would say "The seat of my pants dyno tells me so".
Hey Steve, thanks for the e-mail, i will definitely fire some questions off to them. By the way that is exactly the same engine code i have on mine. From what i found out, these cars were not in any way differentiated by other 996 cars of that model year in their VIN or engine code numbers. Even if you type any 40th VIN number into CARFAX or similar, it will come back at you as a 320HP model. I was never really worried, i knew the car was legit cause i got it from a dealer that sold it originally as new, but some things just didn't make sense. Essentially, the only way to tell it's a 40th AE car by looking at the sticker under the hood is if the number under your VIN (model number) is 996-120.
I'm thinking respraying a standard 996 c2 with the GT silver paint and adding aluminum intakes and all the badging would be way too extensive of a rouse to be worth it for any crook... I think you are safe!
I hope I didnt come off as "hardcore".
It was a bit late when I posted; sorry it came out so negative. I'd hate for any RL member to find their car was made by an unscrupulous seller using bits and pieces from other cars and try to pass it off as all-original. A well documented and maintained 40th AE is pry the most desireable NB 996 and will most likely be a collectible.....someday.
FWIW, a COA is a nice addition to the cars documentation.
Well i got the reply from Porsche in regards to my codes, unfortunately it only adds to the mystery as non of them make sense. Not only that it list options that were not even an option on a 40th AE, but it also states that my car is AUTOMATIC! We all know that all AE's were standard. So i have no clue WTF is oging on. Here's the e-mail i got back:
"Hello,
Now I have the options behind the codes:
XCC - Side Air Vents Aluminium Look
(NOT TURE)
XCD - Centre Air Vents Aluminium Look
(NOT TRUE)
XCE - Centre Console Aluminium Look (You can see this on your picture
Carrera3.jpg)
(NOT TURE IT'S PAINTED GT SILVER)
XEA - handset for telephone
(NOT TRUE)
XTR - Door trim package in Aluminium Look (armrest and door-handle)
(ARMREST ISN"T)
X46 - Tiptronic gear selector in aluminium (That's strange, because you have a manual transmission)
(definitely NOT TRUE)
Regarding the listed options that you can't find in your car (XPG, XSC) please ask you dealership if he knows what happened to them.
We unfortunately can't know how the car is modified after leaving the factory.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Please be aware, that today is the last day, before the public holidays.
We will be back in the office on January, 7th 2013.
Best regards"
This car was sold new at the dealership i bought it from, i am pretty sure it is as it came from the factory. First owner was one of the owners of the dealership. So it all leads me to believe that those codes on the sticker are simply wrong. Any ideas?
I ran into a similar situation when I was looking at a 2004 C4S prior to buying my 40th AE. The owner sent me a pic of his option codes sticker, which showed codes saying that the car had the X50 power package (I believe was only available on the turbo), carbon fiber package, crest in headrest, etc., none of which was accurate. The owner couldn't explain it (he was the second owner of the car), nor could the original selling dealer. Porsche wasn't any help, either.
In any event, I have a question about two codes on my car's option code sticker (codes 09991 and 24371). I called Porsche and they verified most of the codes on my sticker for me but couldn't explain those two. Here is what they told me my car has:
(425) Rear Window Wiper
(680) Bose High End Sound Package
(692) 6-Disc Remote CD Changer
(P15) Comfort Seats with Power Package (Driver memory, full electronic adjustment) - note that my sticker shows 437, 438, and 537, which I believe comprise the P15 package
(C02) US Emissions
(X99) Natural Leather
I believe that the 09991 code refers to a "special program", which I think is something unique that the factory did, but for which there isn't a specific code. I doubt that I'll be able to figure that out. 24371 is a mystery. I've researched several code listing websites and none explain the 24371. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
XCC - Side Air Vents Aluminium Look (NOT TURE) [neither does mine]
XCD - Centre Air Vents Aluminium Look (NOT TRUE) [neither does mine]
XCE - Centre Console Aluminium Look (You can see this on your picture
Carrera3.jpg) (NOT true it is painted Carrera GT Silver) [correct, color matched to seat backs and car Carrera GT Siver]
XEA - handset for telephone (NOT TRUE) [neither does mine but I think they are pre-wired for it behind the console there are wires and plugs]
XTR - Door trim package in Aluminium Look (armrest and door-handle) (ARMREST ISN"T) [Only my door handle is on mine as well]
X46 - Tiptronic gear selector in aluminium (That's strange, because you have a manual transmission) (definitely NOT TRUE) [definitely all are 6sp but my 6sp shifter is aluminum and color matched in Carrera GT Silver]
Hope that helps
I have a 2004 911 Anniversary Edition Nr. 1199. The front air grills for the radiator are painted GT silver and the engine is a 3.6 with M96/03S on the serial number on the engine block. The Porsche manual details the differences between the standard 3.8 and the X51. The intake manifolds are cast aluminum, and according to the service manual the following are different:
Differences
Item 1 Pistons
Item 2 Inlet camshafts and exhaust camshafts
Item 3 Valve discs, valve springs, valve guides, valve seats
Item 4 Valves, valve caps
Item 5 Dual-chamber suction pump at cylinder bank 4 -6
Item 6 Oil suction pipe
Item 7 Oil pan with partition box
Item 8 Gasket for exhaust manifolds
Item 9 Exhaust manifolds
Item 10 Suction line on A/C compressor
Item 11 Intake pipes
Item 12 Intake distributors
It also indicates the cylinder heads have a reduced height so machining of the sealing surface is not possible.
The Vehicle decal on the inside of the trunk hood does not show the S for the engine code:
Engine code M9603-684 and the Transmission code G9601-20
Paint No LM7Z Interior TB
Options C36 X99 440 665 670 680 584 601 551 584 454 476 490 535 551 09991 24371
The car is a Canadian car however the one code from what I could identify indicated for export to New Zealand? The X51 is not in the list. The X99 is the neutral leather package.
This link has more information on the 2004 911 Anniversary Edition Car:
http://www.etusivu.info/Porsche-911-...nniversary.htm
According to the Porsche 996 The Essential Companion (a very good resource manual) the C36 is the Canadian country code. The 440 is the antenna (in the windshield), 665 PCM radio, 670 PCM navigation, 680 Bose sound package, 584 ?, 601 Litronic headlights (non-turbo), 551 wind deflector (not in this car), 584 ?, 454 cruise control, 476 PSM (Porsche Stability Management), 490 sound system?, 535 Anti-theft lock, 551 wind deflector for the second time?, no idea what the 09991 and 24371 options are. The painted air intake grills for the radiators are an option along with the turbo front end and the running boards. The car is also 10 mm lower than the standard Carrera so that is probably a suspension option. Perhaps the last two numbers are related to the 40th Anniversary designation?
Reviving an old thread here. Yesterday I looked at a 40th AE also and the engine number in the particular car I viewed is also M96/038684 which is at odds with the others I've seen stating it should be M96/03SAT ... Did you guys ever figure out the reason why some 40th AEs have the 038684 engine code?
The engine code decoders I've seen don't seem to have reference to 038684. I'd like to know. The car I'm looking at is in good shape from a reputable guy. However if I want to resell it as a special edition at some point I'd love to be able to explain the unique engine number.
Maybe Jake Raby or one of the other resident experts could sort out this issue.
Probably adding more confusion but my original engine number was M9603-68402240 however my engine was replaced by a PO and now has engine # M96/03SAT66575201. I assume the "AT" indicates it is a replacement motor.
