The seller didn't sell the caron fiber plug that needs to be installed with it though so I called Fabspeed to order the plug.

I'm working on adjusting a new set of air filters today actually - need to clear up the driver's side spacing so they don't touch any wiring.

My complaint isn't just about the money, but I was looking forward to working with them on different upgrades I was considering for my car once I put it on the track and understood how I wanted it to drive so this purchase was just a test buy, but I don't think I'll be back.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A little Public service announcement...
I copped the intake upgrade hose on the cheap from ebay. The seller didn't sell the caron fiber plug that needs to be installed with it though so I called Fabspeed to order the plug. After I was placed on hold for 5 mins they quoted me $70 for the part. Ok...whatever. I get it..rip me off because I didn't buy the whole unit. I ended up paying for the part, but my mechanic found a Porsche OEM plug that fit exactly into that open space on the airbox. Cool! A Porsche part AND I can save $70!!! Sweet.
Well, I called Fabspeed to return it and at first they gave me a hard time, but eventually gave me an RMA# to return it. They said that they will need to charge me 20% "restocking fee"..again..ok..fine.
I sent the part back and they got right back to me within a business day. AWESOME! Great service... I got the credit receipt back and they ended up charging me more money than the 20% they already quoted me. When I inquired they now said in addition to the "restocking fee" I was all of the sudden responsible for a "handling fee" of $10. What?!?!? At this point it was all about sales and customer service so I sent a response back to the Rep and the GM that I am still waiting for them to respond to. I don't get how this company just decided to tax me so heavily for a return.

Just wanted to pass my experience to the forum. They have a good reputation, but they lost this guy for good.
If you have verified that how you were treated contravenes Fabspeed's terms and conditions, by all means post up.
Here's what I see when I look at their terms and conditions:
RESTOCKING FEES
Fabspeed Motor sport reserves the right to charge a 25% restocking fee on any opened box item.
...
SHIPPING FEES ON RETURNS
If an order was shipped with free shipping, and the order is the returned, we reserve the right to charge the customer for the original shipping. Return shipping charges from the customer to us will only be credited in circumstances of warranty or incorrect shipment.
How was your experience different than what Fabspeed posts publicly as their return policy?
You bought an incomplete product at auction, contacted Fabspeed to buy the "right" product, then found a cheap plug that will work just as well (I'm curious which Porsche part was used for this purpose) and returned the only item you've ever purchased from Fabspeed, not because it was incorrect for your application or defective but because you subsequently found the part cheaper somewhere else?
It sounds like they undercharged you by 5%.
Clearly you are not as important as you think you are.
5 minute hold! I trust your phone service provider also charged you for this time? Scoundrels!
Restocking fee of 20%!
Emails returned within 24hrs - the horror!
Involving a GM on a $70 part return when the company routinely fields $2k / 5k / 10k orders. I'm guessing your departure from the client list will be celebrated with an open bar this evening.
Nothing is free bud, it aint the country club on pop's tab.
I was responding to your "SPECIFIC" comment.
I appreciate your thoroughness, but if they had charged me the 25% and been consistent with their policy I would have had no issues. My issue is that when I purchase a $70 part and get back $40 there is a problem because the math doesn't work.
On the plus side, once you've put the car on the track you'll probably realize that the stock airbox works better; if that happens more than 30 days from now, you actually came out ahead.
You're being petulant about being charged pursuant to the seller's written terms and conditions and we're the trolls?
That's fine, just making sure I understand the situation.
Do you not think you took up more than $30 of their time? And now you go to an open forum and start bashing them, over $30? Then it's pointed out that they were within their terms and conditions, and the you start calling people trolls?
I have a prediction. You will find life much more fulfilling if you don't take yourself so freakin seriously.
I mean, all trolling and sarcasm aside, I had Fabspeed's competition Carbon Fiber intake on my 996, and it rubbed in several places... it looked good, and sounded good, but as far as fitment was concerned, it might as well have been from China, except for the exorbitant price tag.
Mine as well - minor rub on the fan on the rear decklid being the main one. I'm working on adjusting a new set of air filters today actually - need to clear up the driver's side spacing so they don't touch any wiring. The elegant solution that would not only fix these minor rubs and also address the water ingestion is to surround the filters with a true airbox similar to the 997 style powerkit. Maybe something aside from self immolation can come of this thread afterall
So your point is that your experience with Fabspeed has absolutely nothing in common with or is even obliquely related to OP's complaint.
> I had Fabspeed's competition Carbon Fiber intake on my 996, and it rubbed in several places
Exactly. But, alas, we're on the internet, so we must argue
Merely pointing out that he's not the first one that has had some issue with Fabspeed. I'm not saying they're a "bad" company, but perhaps for the price they ask they could improve their focus on quality.
And so the student becomes the teacher...
The point I was making is that Fabspeed may be a decent company, but I question their customer service practices and now it seems others question their quality.
Maybe try to troll less and understand more and this forum can be returned to its former glory.
Hello Tim, this is John Gaydos the representative you purchased this plug from and also the Rennlist representative for Fabspeed. I'd like to address some of your main conclusions to ensure you fully understand what happened.
1. You stated that you were on hold for 5 minutes while you were quoted the part. I had never had to break up our
Cold Air Intake Kit
before which consists of two products...a silicone hose and the referenced plug for a total MSRP of $245. We typically do not break apart this package, as how would we sell just the silicone hose without the plug? For you I got approval to do so, and it was determined that if I was to break up this package the plug itself is worth $50 plus $10 shipping and PA sales tax of 6%. Your order came to $63.60. To figure all this out, I did have to place you on hold for a time while I sorted it all out.
2. For your reference, here is our
terms and conditions page
from our website, as well as excerpts from it to help you understand the calculations of payment.
"RESTOCKING FEES
Fabspeed Motor sport reserves the right to charge a 25% restocking fee on any opened box item.
"SHIPPING & HANDLING
Fabspeed Motorsport reserves the right to charge a handling fee on every order being shipped from our facility. This fee is universal and applies to all retail and wholesale purchases and cannot be waived or credited.
A 6% sales tax will be implemented for every purchase made by a Pennsylvania resident.
This fee will be charged for in-house installations and products purchased online, over the phone, and/or via email,
this fee is non-negotiable and non-refundable
."
As we do not refund for shipping/handling/sales tax, the only thing in contention for a refund with the 25% restock fee is the $50 for the product. $50 x .75 = $37.50. Brian in customer service not only followed proper company policy but also went as far as to reduce that restocking fee to 20% for you and included the sales tax for that $40 as well. $50x.8=$40x1.06=$42.40. We sent back $43 to you. Also, there was no additional charge for a $10 handling fee as I didn't charge you for that on your initial order. However we did not refund the $10 charge for ground shipping on your order as we are not responsible for that.
At the end of the day, I apologize for any miscommunication throughout the return process. The last thing I want to happen is to lose a client. It looks bad to the company and myself, despite following all of our company policies to the "T". This morning was the first time I was even aware of the situation in seeing this thread, know that I am only a phone call away and will do everything I can to make you happy and move forward with a positive relationship between yourself and Fabspeed.
I have a Fabspeed exhaust, and I love my Fabspeed exhaust. I also know that they are a really good company with a great reputation, and a forum vendor sponsor. I'm glad to see John weigh in on this and give us the facts. Thanks John!
Gee guys I sourced a rubber plug from Home Depot cost less than $3 and it really looks "Fab"with my red Silicone intake. I wish I wasn't decrepit and knew how to send pictures. The 79 year old.
I believe the issue has been properly aired out and it seems that Fabspeed went beyond company policy to satisfy their client. With that I am closing this thread.
