Hi all- installing new rotors and pads on my '03 C 4S and I just noticed a difference between the new and old pads. The old pads have these circle doodads on the top (see photo- old pad on left) and the new ones are lacking these. The new pads are hella pagid, oem spec for his car per Pelican Parts. Also, the box that the new pads came in has a photo of the pads in which said doodads are present. Does this difference matter? I'm about 5 minutes away from mounting them anyway, but thought I'd ask the wise minds here what they thought. any help is is greatly appreciated!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Makes no difference. In other words, you don't need those doodads. I don't have those on mine. Strange the box picture would show them but the brake pads don't have them. And the pad itself looks different than the box. Oh well... See here for various brake pads from Auto Atlanta. Some of the pad sets have them, and some don't. http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=602-00
Thanks DB! I thought the same, but it's reassuring to have a second opinion. And yeah, weird that the box photo is different from the actual pads. On to the pads! Thanks again.
Jh1165, I too wondered about those "doodads" a while back when shopping for replacement brake pads. Found out those things are actually weights attached to the pads whose sole purpose is to assist absorb vibration.

...and may be acting as mini air-cooled heat sinks too
You would think that the additional mass would increase the vibration - inertia doesn't happen anymore? I'm going with the heat sink theory but they need fins and cross drilling before fitting ?
I was kidding. They are to dampen the vibration. Kinda like stick a piece of metal to a guitar string so it won't be able to make any sound.
Thanks everyone for the help. I placed the new pads and rotors without issue and am feeling highly satisfied having done the work myself. I bought this car hoping to increase my home mechanic skills as a part of ownership- so far just the brakes and 2 oil changes, but it feels good to do this sort of stuff myself. Now to pitch the idea of buying a lift to the wife...perhaps two months after a 911 purchase is too soon, though.
