I'm on the fence whether I should replace the wheels with some classic carrera wheels.

If you are looking for something different without dropping a ton of cash, I looked into painting a set black that were on a black car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
New member with a new car here. Its a mk1 C2 tip. My family is in that business so I got it for a decent price with 79k miles. So far it drives and shifts like a dream. I crack the rear drivers side window and the sound gives me palpitations. Unfortunately where I'm currently living it must sleep outside, however it just got a wash x2, clay, polish, and wax to endure this harsh south florida weather. I'm on the fence whether I should replace the wheels with some classic carrera wheels. These are a bit curbed by the previous owner. Or I could have these fixed as well. What do you think?
iwant996,
You need to change your username to "ihave996".
Whereabouts in S. FL? I'm in Aventura. Got my 1999 C2 cab. 6 spd. last December. Been looking for other local MK1 owners to meet up with.
Congratulations and welcome! You have a great looking cab there! Those are the best factory wheels in my opinion, so I would opt for having them fixed.
If you are looking for something different without dropping a ton of cash, I looked into painting a set black that were on a black car. I found this picture that I think looks great:
Thank you all for the kind welcome. I'm thinking I may keep these wheels after all. I did a little research and found that they're two-piece.. is that correct? Having them fixed shouldn't be a problem except I have to give up the car for a week
Question, Do all the mk1s come with a red coupler from the air filter box?
We're neighbors, I'm a tad north of downtown Ft. Lauderdale in Poinsettia Heights. Aventura is a nice area. I would be down for a photo shoot for sure!
Actually my two passenger side windows are failing currently, I already have both window regulators ordered.
I was referring to cracking my drivers side rear window so I can hear the exhaust note while still enjoying my A/C
Yes, these are 2-piece wheels. I had to shop around to find a refinisher who would actually take the wheels apart as some have a policy of not doing that, I think because of issues with 3 piece wheels and they are confused about these. If they are refinished without disassembly, the screw heads get painted with the centers. You may not care but I did.
Let me get this straight, you have a three-car garage and you're making the Porsche "sleep outside"??? Are you heartless?
Or, did you just drive up to someone's house and take these pictures? huh? admit it!
I asked the mechanic who's been taking care of the car and he confirmed there is a CAI on it. He can't recall the name, but I think its a fab bc there's that carbon fiber painted cap. Not sure if other kits come with that or not. He did say it has a K&N filter. I'll have to check when I'm not so lazy.
I asked about that and you are correct. The apparently won't take them apart to fix them. He said they might be able to cover the screw heads before they paint.
hehehe thats my parents house. They even have an empty bay while the porsche sits outside.. sadly I live about 30 minutes away from them for work. I guess I could keep it garaged and keep my '12 CRZ as a daily driver... but I've thought it over extensively and decided that (despite the hit in gas mileage and this terrible guilt I feel about keeping it outside) the 996 will serve as a much better daily
Nice ride. Keep the wheels. Maybe put some spacers on to fill out the wheel wells a bit. Don't fret about sitting outside.
Drive the f@$k out of it! They are meant to be driven, not polished. (Dr Porsche said something to that effect once)

I'll PM you with contact info.
As far as keeping it outside, sometimes mines is outside and I have a cover, best $300 I ever spent. Water proof, blocks sun, east on easy off.
