But I also realized that black conceals wear the best, and matches the easiest if replacing leather, and I'm looking at 12-14 year old cars.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had a 1998 C2S back in 2004, but sold it. (I know, I know). Did the Vette thing for awhile, then a 2001 Boxster S. A few cars later, I just got this 2003 C4S from a PCA member in Santa Monica, CA. Well documented with fresh IMS/RMS/clutch job. Very nice inside and out, belying the 106k mi. on it. I did the fly in, drive home trip, a relatively short one, to metro Phoenix. Need to take some better, newer pics, but, you get the idea.. It's great to be back in a Porsche!

POST 2Original post

Congrats. What did you pay if you do not mind sharing? I'd like to get a 911 one of these days and one like this seems most likely with my budget. Eddie

POST 4Original post

Welcome back into the fold. The C4S mafia greets you with open arms.

POST 5Original post

Nice to see you returned to the 996 family. Good looking 911!

POST 6Original post

Welcome back. This is my first 911 and I am not disappointed. had a 1986 944 Turbo and that was also a great car. Currently the wife is driving a 2016 Vette Cabrio and I must say that the refinement is finally there but since it's an automatic (wife drove the 944 turbo 5M but refuses to touch a manual since) I felt the need to het a manual hence the 996. I am sure you will love the new ride. The engine sound is intoxicating.

POST 7Original post

Welcome! That is a good looking car. I like the carbon shifter and e-brake option. That looks nice.

POST 8Original post

Welcome back! That black interior always looks so clean in these!

POST 9Original post

Pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, a beautiful silver 03-04 C4S! Congrats sir, I'm sure you'll enjoy it for the both of us until I can snag one of my own

Silver 996's are incredibly rare you may have trouble finding one.

POST 11Original post

Really, that seems to be the most common color I'm seeing. Be it in the C2, or C4S. Now seal gray on the other hand, I've only found 1 C4S in that color.

POST 12Original post

He was being a wise-***. The only thing more common than arctic silver 996's are GT Silver Metallic 40AE's.

POST 13Original post

Haha, that's what I thought...but he didn't put a cute little emoji indicating that he wasn't for real Honestly, I like any 911 I've ever seen....some colors just accentuate the lines better imho. Saw a 04 C4S in white in person recently, and it was damn good looking. White seems pretty rare.

POST 15Original post

The Germans have been reluctant to overplay white since the mid 40's.

When we were ordering ours there was another customer at the dealer that was apparently in a year long battle with Porsche AG as they wanted both the interior and exterior white via the PTS and custom leather color options. Porsche was refusing on the grounds that the white dash would cause dangerous glare and reflections. Don't know whatever happened.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow, lotsa responses! Thanks everyone. Eddie: I paid full ask of $26k. I'd been looking since mid-August, and IIRC, he started out at 32k around then. It failed to bring 25 on eb recently. The best deals I missed on C4S's were a nice red/blk one in WA with ~80k on CL, asking $25! I called within hours of the listing, but it sold locally in 2 days. It did not have IMS done. Another in TX, blue/s.beige, ~80k, new tires, no IMS, on Rennlist @ 26.5, sold in a couple weeks, while I was checking service records. Funny about the color combo. When I set out, I was adamant I wouldn't buy silver/blk since it's so common, and I like to be different. Esp. the black interior. I saw only one prospect in Phoenix of any kind that whole time. But I also realized that black conceals wear the best, and matches the easiest if replacing leather, and I'm looking at 12-14 year old cars. So you could say that I "settled", but I'm not the type to look for years for the "perfect" car. It's too late to order one to spec! I'm very happy with my car, esp. the interior, which looks like a much newer car.
