Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am leaving tomorrow for Romania and returning on the 27th of September . I was thinking of Leaving the car in the drive-way with a cover on it and letting my father drive it at least once a week. Highway driving and all... Should I be doing this or should I dissconnect the battery and let it sit? Thanks, Alin

POST 2Original post

give your father the keys; tell him to drive it like he stole it.....

POST 3Original post

If you trust your dad to drive it "well" them give him the keys. If not, them pop the trunk release (to ensure access to the battery without much fuss), put a cover on it, and hide the keys.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I trust my father to the fullest. He drove it already and he's an excellent driver. I just need him to drive it at leats once a week and not let it sit there the whole month. I heard something that the security system will automatically stop or the power will stop after 7 days?? correct me if i'm wrong... I have a cover all set and ready, hopefull the 330CI cover will fit perfectly... Any other tips that i'm missing? it's only a month I guess... Excellent tip about popping the trunk!

POST 5Original post

I would be sure to put its little booties on and make sure you leave enough food for when it gets hungry..........Let Pops drive it . It might run better when you return It will be fine. Have a safe trip!

POST 6Original post

In the true spirit of RL, I volunteer to drive your car to the maximum of its ability in your absence.

POST 7Original post

Absolutely let your dad drive it, your car will be happy as well as your Dad.

POST 8Original post

And the other side, make sure you have teh radio code and diconnect the battery. Mine has sat longer than a month without driving. It's not a dog, you can ignore it for a while.

POST 9Original post

The security system shuts off after about 5 days so that it doe not drain the battery. You will have to unlock it with the key in the door the first time then it goes back on. This happens everytime I don't drive my car for more than about 5 days.

POST 10Original post

Yah have the Dad cruise it. Just make sure you have him covered on the insurance real good. You could also make sure his style of music is loaded up for him to listen to. It might also keep him from hearing the engine which would have him addicted to the sound of the PERFORMANCE WHERE HE WOULD TURN INTO THE BOY RACER OF OLD BURNING RUBBER LATE AT NIGHT AROUND EMPTY CITY STREETS LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT Just had to say it

really? You think a cover for a 330ci is going to fit a 911 perfectly?

POST 12Original post

I bet he comes back to find that: The car has an additional 5K miles on it Your dad bought a new pair of sunglasses. His left arm is far more suntanned than his right. He looks a few inches taller and he can't find your keys to give them back to you.

POST 13Original post

I leave my car sitting for 3 or 4 weeks when I travel. the alarm system shuts off nicely and there is always battery when I get back You will indeed have to put the key in the door and unlock it that way. but don't open the door or the alarm will sounds. once the key is in the door you will see the alarm will be back on. then you can press the unlock button from the key/remote and you are good to go. At least that is the way it works on mine. bu good idea to leave the trunk open... if you don't have any bug/rodent problem in your garage...
