They know nothing of the IMSB or any of the other potential issues outside of what they'd be getting with any used car.
Leading evidence: 'Use car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, hope it is okay to post this but I have decided to sell my 1999 (the best year
) 996 Cabriolet. I posted this thread before about the car I was really looking for but got a deal on this one. I just really want a coupe that is a little rough around the edges, maybe faded/scratched paint, interior tears or wear, etc. Something I can build into a street/track day car with racing seats, stripped down interior, roll bar, etc.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...cabriolet.html
I listed it locally at $24,950 but will give Rennlisters a better deal. Includes recently purchased hardtop. Will take a coupe in partial trade, maybe even a roller with bad engine.
That's a polite way of putting it. Lol.
Your best bet for selling it right now is through bringatrailer.com. That's where they are bringing the best money. But if you can't stomach it bringing under 20k, your best bet is to sit on it until you can.
'64 is not for sale.
It's a bit ironic though, the Porsche is a incredible car that does everything better than a '64 Corvette yet it is worth less than half what the Corvette is.
If I can't get at least $20K for the Porsche then I will keep it and just drive the dang thing.
It's not like I need to sell it, I just think I would prefer a coupe.
Maybe I'll sell one of my other "regular" cars and use this more for errands and trips instead of just a very occasional spirited drive through the twisties. After all, many people bought these cars and used them as their only car.
As a car guy and because this car is so nice and clean, it's hard for me to treat it like "just a car" but if I change my mind set and think of it as an $18K car (if that is all I can get for it) then I won't mind leaving it outside at night, parking in the grocery store parking lot, etc. Heck, what kind of daily driver car can you get for $18K these days, a used Camry or Accord?
I helped a guy in TX buy a 99 cab with hardtop in red with 78k miles on it a few weeks ago and the price came in about $17k. right or wrong, that's what the market will bear. I think you'll be driving this gray one for a long, long time.
Daily it. I bought mine to use for track days... it quickly became my daily driver. I sold my BMW 540i, 740il, and just drove the Porsche. These cars are slow to sell at high prices cabs Especially so. If you don't "need" the money for your coupe project just drive it. There was a coupe not far from me for $13k last week perfect candidate for a track ****. I posted it in the craigslist finds.
I'll place a couple ads to see but this is probably what I'll do.
I can use this car for occasional track days as it is instead of getting a second car as a dedicated track day car. I'll probably only do one or two a year anyway because I just have too much other stuff going on.
I'm sure like a lot of you, I'm pretty **** about keeping my cars clean and in pristine condition, even my DD's. I'm sure as time goes on and I put miles on this car things will start to wear and get old. The car is almost 18 years old now so eventually it will become just an old used well worn Porsche with lots of "character".
^This^... There are plenty of folks around that that just see Porsche 911, not "996". They know nothing of the IMSB or any of the other potential issues outside of what they'd be getting with any used car. In other words, it's not 'til they find Rennlist that they become paranoid nail biters
Okay, washed and waxed the car, then went for a little drive. I am still completely perplexed as to what to do with this car. It is so fun to drive and has all the mods I'd like, exhaust, brakes, shifter, etc. Every time I drive this car I like it more.
I'm going to list it and see what happens. If I can't get above the $20K mark I'll just keep it. If I sell and find a coupe, then more than likely I will want to do the exhaust and shifter at minimum and maybe brake upgrade. I'd probably end up spending more money than what I get for this car. Might as well just keep this one.
Sorry for being so indecisive.
" '64 is not for sale. "
Bummer. You can't blame a guy for trying.
While 996 coupes offer slightly more torsional rigidity and enough in weight savings to make a solid difference on a dedicated track car, the convertible is still a well mannered platform that turns and stops well right out of the box. I scrub a little life off of my Pilot Sports through corners at every opportunity, and the car is always willing to comply with no bad manners or surprises even at the limits of adhesion. And the smiles-per-mile ratio of going topless would be difficult to equal in a coupe... unless of course your passenger is topless, but that's something different altogether.
Do you DIY your upgrades? If so go for them now. You won't be sorry. If not, I highly recommend it.
And I know you probably have a lot in your vert, but you realize if you sell it for 19k and buy a coupe for 19k, it's still an even money swap, right?
Yes, I do my own mods although my current car came with them all done and other than swapping out the wheel/tire combo for something different (maybe black) there is nothing else I need to do to it.
I don't think I could find a coupe similarly modded with the same miles and condition for $19K. I did a quick search and can find several at around $15K but all higher miles and no mods. So by the time I add what I want I'll be into it for more money.
And like Flat6 says, the coupe may make a difference on the track but not on the street where I will be doing 99.9% of my driving so may be better just sticking with my car (unless I can get someone with a comprable coupe to do an even trade
!).
