Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace cultch switch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'starter solenoid' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check starter relay once i get home' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
If therr is and the starter is not spinning, then it's most likely the starter solenoid.

I guess I have to go after the starter solenoid next ,The starter is only one year old and so the Y cable I replaced all that while replacing the AOS last year about this time .

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys , Need direction on what to do next, I replaced the Ignition switch for the second time with Porsche original parts , but still get random delay start up to 10 to 15 second. Do I need to replace any thing else .
Sorry, can't solve or contribute to your problem, I'm looking at dealing with the ignition switch problem for the first time. Curious where you bought your parts and how much. I'm thinking Pelican parts OEM for like $27.
Question, is there a way to tell which part number I need without taking the bad switch out.
4A0-905-849-B-M56 or 4B0-905-849-M-56
My understanding is the first is for the original ignition lock assembly the second is the upgraded assembly. Bought the car used with 18K miles (2000 C2). Would like to order now while I'm away on vacation.
I'm assuming I have the original assembly and need the the 4A0 part. If I go to the Audi dealer and get the part, do I get the cheap part ($7) or the OEM part ($30). I want the $30 part. Anxious to get the part and fix it, don't want to wait to fix and get driving.
The difference is the shape of the guide pins as far as I can tell.
I have a 1998 996.1 and bought from Pelican. My only gripe is it was damaged in transit (one of the pins was put under pressure which snapped off when I tried to straighten it out).
I bought this one:
Ignition Switch
Brand: O.E.M. , 1999 Porsche 911 Coupe
Part #: 4A0-905-849-B-M56
$27.75
Hope this helps! Its an easy DIY. You can remove the old one to check which type of switch you have.
Just to clarify, you are rotating the key to the "Start" position for 10-15 seconds, nothing happens for these 10-15 seconds and then the starter runs and starts the engine ?You don't hear any relays clicking ?
1. Feel the wiring to the starter after you've tried this a few times to find any parts of the high amperage wires that are hot to touch.Feel the starter solenoid -is it hot ? Give it a few taps with a punch. It may be sticking?
2. Substitute another starter relay. Listen/feel for a click from the starter relay (not the f/p relay). Or 'jump ' the old relay.
The starter relay is behind the back seats. Try search for location/specs.
To be clarify , I turn the key to start position and rotating it to start the car and having to wait 10 to 15 seconds before it fired up . No cranking whatsoever and some times it's just start right away with no delay. I'll check my starter relay once I get home.
Fallow up , Just had chance to change the starter relay over the weekend , car started with no delay the first few times . Then after sat few hours the same problem cam back . I guess I have to go after the starter solenoid next ,The starter is only one year old and so the Y cable I replaced all that while replacing the AOS last year about this time . Any suggestion before I go their .
You may want to open up the rear relay panel under the left rear seat to access the starter relay amd do some troubleshooting there. Basically verify of there is actually power to the starter solenoid at all whem you try to crank. If therr is and the starter is not spinning, then it's most likely the starter solenoid.
