Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All I can say is WOW Pix will follow when I am done. I have never seen paint so clean. My paint was really dirty. I have been trying to polish it but it just wouldnt come smooth. I would polish and polish and clean... But when you still ran your hand over it, it wasnt silky smooth. So far all I have clayed is the roof I am also under flourencent lights and holy cow, you can see exactly where I ran the clay and where I have not.....

POST 2Original post

Yeah, thats good stuff, did mine 2 years ago and it still looks good, probably due again though.

POST 3Original post

I try to clay twice a year..... yeah, good stuff. Just the amount of stuff you clay off the car after a thorough wash is unbelievable.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im not sure if I an doing it right. I am just rubbing the clay on the car. Is that correct? No rag? Its working.

POST 5Original post

Just the clay and LOTS of lubrication!! (Minds out of the gutter.. now!)

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7447691

what do you mean? I have been dry rubbing it

POST 7Original post

In addition make sure you keep folding the clay and check for any debris that may get stuck in it. And lubrication!! did I mention that?

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 7447703

No!!!!!!!!!! stop!! You need a clay lubricant. Any detailing spray works fine.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a kit and it didnt have instructions...... Ok, They gave me a little bottle of cleaner wax. Am I to use that as the lube?

POST 11Original post

You can use a spray detailer as a lubricant for the "clay" Do not rub dry ....it will destroy paint..one piece of sand and its over.....

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 7447726

Nope, needs to be something very slick like a detail spray or your just rubbing the dirt around and scratching your car. This works well.. http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/produc...T1=MEG+MC20108

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7447740

Ok they also gave me spray detailer... Ok, Got it.. Thats sounds better. Whew, thanks guys

POST 14Original post

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 7447748

OK, I can't resist............

POST 21Original post

or just spit on it I really have problems! Thats what I was talking about when I got my car, my son touched the paint and even though it was shiny, it was nopt smooth like after a good clay bar --- Kyle, when you are done the paint will be pretty raw... you need to polish it 1-3 times, then apply 4-10 coats of a good top layer wax IMO.... what "system" did you buy?

POST 22Original post

its amazing that more people (outside of here) don't use clay bars. Kyle your paint will look like it just came off the line when your are done. And like all others are saying 'use lots of lube'. Toss the clay bar portion that used out after your are done too. I use Griots but they all fairly much the same. Its all in the technique......that's what she said!

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was wondering who my wife was talking to on the phone the other day.... She was learing how to clay my car! Thats one good woman I got there.

POST 30Original post

It will be supple, silky smooth to the touch...........OMG this is turning into car ****! BTW...I call my buffer "Jimmy and the twins"! Nite all!

POST 31Original post

POST 32Original post

Great minds think alike. I'm planning on doing mine on Saturday... 2 years since I did it last, so I'm looking forward to a day of washing, claying and waxing.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7447877

How do you spell- "Mequires" I use a product called Liquid Glass. Been using it since I could drive. Every car I had, I used it on and the paint stays looking great. Even a Red Corvette that sat out side in the hot florida sun for 5 years.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am going to clay EVERYTHING from now on!!!! Starting with the wife. I cant wait to see it tomorrow in the sun.. Here is a crappy camera phone pix of the car and one of our trip to the zoo. More tomorrow.

POST 35Original post

Can someone post a list of items needed, ideally with some links to by them And the process to follow. I am tempted to get on this task as my car paint is really rough to the touch right now. But I am particularly worry about what to do after the clay, polish, wax, ect... I don't even know what a clay bar look like pics would be great.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7448360

Local parts house is where mine came from. Autozone I think it was http://www.meguiars.com/estore/produ...nname=Consumer (Meguiar's Brand)>Auto Paint Care>Auto Detailing Clay&sectionID=11201 the clay bars I used were about 3/8" thick and about 3X2" looks like clay.. regular old clay.. But I am sure it is not regular old clay

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 7448360

Its a long running debate as to what is best/easiest/longest lasting/best value - as Kyle stated the auto parts stores sell plenty of stuff. Griot's Garage Zaino Rejex Are 2 that offer a plethora of products. It gets pretty involved and depending on your car color can really make a huge differance in the appearance. Autopia (sp) is a website dedicated to detailing and there are plenty of them out there. Best is to read read read and ask ask ask - you will have to make your own decision in the end.

POST 38Original post

i like groits stuff easy to use and most of thier products are very gentle and forgiving.

POST 39Original post

They say the best way to check your paints needing claying is to put your hand in a plastic bag then run the your hand over the paint. Another good thing to remember is always spray water on the car at an angle. Direct praying embeds particles like claying helps get rid of.

POST 40Original post

Here we go - I don't use a hose to wash the car anymore - see!

POST 41Original post

one job I actually do, clay bar and wax. Find it satisfying, does take some time though, wash, dry, clay, wax... is about the only time I listen to the car stereo. glad Sharky is back, the Hoff creeps me out...

POST 60Original post

I normally use a buffer, but this time I did everything by hand. It takes a little longer, but looks a lot better if done right. The microfiber cloth that came with the clay bar kit is really excellent for buffing.

Your 911 looks fantastic Wayne...well done, I love a white 911!

POST 64Original post

Thanks guys. I love it when my car looks like this.... even though it's usually only for a few hours. I know by tomorrow it will look like crap again, but at least I get the satisfaction of knowing that the car still has showroom quality paint when I give it some attention and clean it up.

POST 65Original post

Wow that looks great. The white really sets that car off!

POST 66 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow that did come out nice. I put the second coat of Liquid Glass on mine to day. Almost ready for pix.

POST 68Original post

Wayne, she look gerat! Almost as nice as my white Honda!

POST 69Original post

Quotes source post: 7455193

I'm sure your white Honda could look as good - white really is a spectacular color when it's nicely polished. I never realized how nice it was until I bought this car - it hides the dirt, plus when it's detailed it really is easy to really make the car look amazing. I'm amazed that a 10 year old car can have paint that looks as good as it did when it left the showroom.

POST 70Original post

Looks great Wayne, hope too see it in person at Hershey! I had severe Porsche withdrawal this weekend, Had to go visit the In-laws... way the hell up in Western NY... 5 hour drive. Just got back and I am shot. BUT next weekend the 996 gets an Oil change, FisterD's/Fabspeed tips and a nice wash. Not to mention a drive! Cars & Coffee on Saturday for all you locals.

POST 71Original post

Quotes source post: 7455229

I hope so too. I was disappointed that we didn't get to meet last year. I'll be there. I'm not sure if the family will be tagging along with me.... last year I was disappointed that I had to leave early because my son ran out of patience.

POST 72Original post

Your car looks very nice! My wife's Boxster is Glacier White and when clean and polished the finish is stunning. I must say it looks better in many ways than my Artic Silver car.

POST 73Original post

Quotes source post: 7448609

I confessed to washing my car the night before on saturday to my neighbor. Yah you know it, he knew it was me that caused the rain as I was headed to my car.....cleaned and waxed to only get straight into the muck. That stuff come with a robot to do the work? Cheaper to pay the kids next door every week to do my car after their dads ferrari. I'd get the wash, wax and vacumed.....maybe I ought to ask them a price because I sure am lazy about vacuming even after I bought a fancy battery powered one.

POST 75Original post

Only one way to find out but do not use the buffer. Been there....... Makes sense to use clay with a lube on the clearbra......what harm could it cause? Now if you are talkin' about using lube on a bra...that's a whole different deal!

POST 76Original post

Wayne, your car looks absolutely new. Amazing.

POST 77Original post

Thanks guys.... sadly the car is already covered in pollen and ash.... gotta love springtime At least it looked stunning for a few hours.

POST 78Original post

Mine is nice and Pollen covered as well. but not as bad as my black saab...Pollen magnet! Just changed the oil when I got home from work, wish all cars were as quick and easy an oil change as the 996!
