The radiators are your water coolers and have very long pipes that run the length of the car back to the motor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was up in Napa Valley last week on a very hot, dusty backroad and had to pull over to let a tractor pass. The front end of my 996 kicked up a major whirlwind of dust. Is this normal? Why is there a fan in the front of the P-car when the engine is in the back? Is this normal? I thought this fan was connected to the HVAC system, but I turned the HVAC off and the dust still rose and swirled around the car. Sorry to be so ignorant, but can someone tell me what this fan is for? Brakes?

POST 2Original post

For the radiators that cool the engine? 20 pages of radiator questions.....

POST 3Original post

There are 2 fans up front - one on each side. There are directly in front of both wheels. They run at differant speeds depending on the amount of cooling required. They draw air thru the radiators that are located in front of the fans. The radiators are your water coolers and have very long pipes that run the length of the car back to the motor. The water circulates from the motor all the way up front into the cooling radiators, gets cooled, and goes all the way back to the motor. When the water temprature is hotter, the fans run at higher speeds. On "High" they really make a lot of noise and move a lot of air. Its normal Cheers!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. By the way, I did try a search for "front fan" on the forum (but not for "radiator"). : ]
