They recommended adding some wheel spacers to bring the wheels more inline with the sides of the car.

I'm looking for one that hooks into the CD change controls to control the iPod using the track buttons and will also charge the iPod at the same time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The car finally arrived today! I was away at a company meeting, so my father kindly took delivery for me (and resisted the temptation to immediately drive to Dallas!). Everyone in my family got to see the car before I did. I came home to find it waiting for me in the garage, and man oh man I can't believe I actually own a Porsche.
Here are the pics from today:
This is a 2002 C4S 6 speed manual in Arctic Silver with full black leather interior. It has ~39700 miles on the odometer. The car has a number of modifications including:
Fabspeed mufflers
EVOMS Cold air intake
RSS Intake plenum
B&M Short shift kit
TT Front lip
Bilstein PSS10 coil-over suspension
Front and rear H&R adjustable sway bars
Lightweight battery
Aluminum trim rings and red "S" from the Plug Guy
Custom painted semi-gloss black twist wheels with red pin stripe
OEM Clear side markers
I bought it from a 6speedonline member (RocC4S). It was a real pleasure working through the PPI and sales process with another enthusiast who has clearly taken excellent care of the car. Now I just need to get a temporary tag, inspection, and I'll be ready to put this car to excellent use as my new DD.
Special thanks to Ominipresent here on Rennlist for sending me the link to the for-sale notice. Many thanks to everyone else for providing good advice and strong opinions that have been extremely helpful to me while looking for the right car for me.
Congrats!!! Another member of the "So-so Silver Club"... I gotta say, I do love the look those bumper covers give to the car... Be safe and enjoy!

Nice looking ride! Congrats.
One mod I would recommend is to dump the CD holder and replace it with upper shelf, which will be much more functional than the CD holder. Shelf costs about $30 and swap out takes 8.43 seconds.
WOOOOO HOOOOOO
That is one bad a** looking car - WAY TO GO!!!!
Dont worry about the constant trips to the garage for no reason, that comes with ownership.
Congrats Zach, I was wondering if it would make it on time through all the ice we got in Dallas. Are you going to make the trip to Ruf in Dallas Saturday?
Sweet ride! Congrats! Excellent choice!
You pretty much have every mod possible, so I guess you just have to go drive the heck out of it.
Welcome aboard.
Very nice ride - you should have plenty of chances to really enjoy the car around Austin, between local roads and all of the track events around there.
Have fun!
You shouldda got the V-6 Tim!
Really nice C4s! I think the entire 996 line should have had the wider-body shape!
I personally like silver rims, but otherwise, great mods/upgrades. I hate to ask how much you paid, considering it probably sold for half of what I paid for my '00 C2!
Gorgeous C4S, and tastefully modded to boot! You'll be making random trips to the garage for weeks on end, I guarantee it. I've been considering getting that plate here in NC recently.
Battery may have been disconnected during transport, which is why hood might have been open.
congrads....i remember my first day when i got my p car....i bet u will be finding more excuses to go to the garage just to look at her or going more often grocery shopping(which i still both do) ..........
Tim,
I do have plans to do my first mod soon - to add an iPod adapter to the radio. Since I have to pull the center console to do it, I think I will swap out the CD holder at the same time. I'm guessing that you'll suggest Suncoast for the cubby part.
I was looking at an iPorsche adapter (manufactured by a 6speed member) but I haven't gotten any response from that user. I'm looking for one that hooks into the CD change controls to control the iPod using the track buttons and will also charge the iPod at the same time. Second choice would be one that just charges and connects via the AUX but controls are still on the iPod.
Wow I just realized it's a sunroof delete car - that's pretty rare.. What's your impression after 24 hours? This cool, thick air is a great time to get out and enjoy all those mods. Please
send me a link for the iPorsche adapter kit
Omni - it does actually have a sun roof. It's just not very visible in the photos.
I just started driving this afternoon after picking up my temporary registration. The battery was dead from leaving the hood open (hood light) - doh! So I had to jump the car using my Outback. Because of that, the OBD computer didn't have enough data to let the TX inspection place put a rubber stamp on it. I have to drive a few more miles for it to have sufficient data I guess.
I did get a chance to hit the higher RPMs and the setup sounds great. Unfortunately there's not enough road to really hear it because the speed limit comes up too fast. Don't want a speeding ticket on my first day!
The radio is the base model CDR-220 and the sound is nothing special. Since it already has mods to the running gear, I may also want to put in some better audio in the near future.
I think I'll be able to put some miles on this weekend. I've been reading "Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook" to get a better understanding of the dynamics. Also been paging through "Porsche 996: The Essential Companion" which is fantastic. I should have bought that book during the purchase process.
I may also have the need to actually get a jack and stands so I can access the suspension bits and examine the settings on the shocks and sways. The car is quite low. It hasn't been a problem yet but I may consider raising the suspension some.
Great car, you will soon find yourself approaching every turn while accelerating. I had a custom sound system put in, factory is so poor, let me know and I will post some pics.
Post #11 - "BTW, in your pics, the hood does not appear to be completely latched down/closed. "
we were watching out for you.. but you were SOOOO excited... LOL!!
Beautiul C4S - Congratulations. Your family deserves some thanks, too. The urge to try it out must have been difficult to resist - I wouldn't have made it.
Bob
I would save your money on the ipod upgrade until you are completely ready for a full audio makeover. Just listen to the exhaust and enjoy the ride!! You won't be able to hear the music well anyway with stock audio.
when you raise the suspension, your handling will suffer and will also need a new alignment. I suggest you learn how to approach slopes slowly at an angle. The PO set the car up nicely and it would be a shame to disturb it until you are much more familiar with the car.
Fortunately my father's current addiction tends towards the two wheel variety (he's got a Harley and a BMW). He did get to go with me on the first drive though.
I think I would have driven it the night it arrived - with or without registration. But I was drinking at my company party and didn't think the mix of alcohol, Porsche, and missing plates would go over too well with the neighborhood cops.
I will take some more pics and video this weekend. My POS canon died a month ago, so I need a new camera. Guess I'll have to support our economy by buying a new one.
I was able to wring it out at lunch today with the roof open and the windows down. The exhaust note is everything I would expect. Left me laughing every time I got to have a clear start from a light.
I went by TPWS in Austin to look over the car. They recommended adding some wheel spacers to bring the wheels more inline with the sides of the car. I may have my first legit mechanical mod! I know, pics, pics.
see if you can read the wheel size on the rims.. post them and some off these nice folks will recommend the "correct spacers"
there should be a series of numbers near the valve stems.. (I am too lazy to go check right now, let me know if you cant find them)
The fronts wheels say "8" "50" and the rears are "11" "47". I think the wheels are normal 18" C4S twists under that paint. Tires are 225/40-18 and 295/30-18.
damn wide bodies get all the good stuff !! ! ! !
j/k
I really like the look of your car.. very nicely done.
Someone will post spacers sizes for you ....
Z
In case you don't know what the numbers mean..... the first number is the wheel width in inches and the second number is the offset in mm.
You could do a 7mm or 15mm spacer in the front, but I don't know if you should add a spacer in the rear. The 11" with 47 offset should already be pretty close to flush with the fender. Maybe someone with a wide body can comment about the rears.
Of course, pics would help!
Here are some pics of the wheels. Now that I look at them again, I think they might be fine. They are even -- or extend a little from the side of the car at the base.
