Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Would you guys buy this car if you could get it for $32K http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ype=b&make=POR

POST 2Original post

My sense is that number is typo... or they're indicating how many miles on the new motor, which would be a bit disingenuous since the rest of the car would likely have more miles than that... But I would certainly get more information... having finished my car shopping about four months ago (after a couple of years of looking), I still get a little suspicious when I see information like that... POST 3Original post

yup.... If I was looking for a nice Cab that is..... What do you want with the car? DD or weekend toy? This car has basicly been stored its whole life, and If I had the cash and understanding that it might require some work in the event that it starts to leak from old seals....keep some money aside for that... damn.. its a nice car.... Ask Phil G , He has one about like that with 1/2 as many miles.....As far as I know its a perfect car.

POST 4Original post

As long as it passed a PPI, $32K.. sure! 39K... nooooooo.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont think its a typo, and I dont think it has a new engine in it. It's some rich snowbird's Palm Beach winter car. The ad says as much. So if it passed PPI, is it still an accident waiting to happen because its a Garage Queen?

POST 6Original post

Yeah, in today's market it's over priced. There is lot's of debate about extremely low mileage cars with some feeling they are prone to big issues. However, I don't think anyone has data to back it up, only intuition and an occasional example. I actually know less about cars than boats, and can tell you for sure that the worst thing you can do to a boat is let it sit idle. It literally will rot from the inside out. It seems fair to conclude that all mechanical parts suffer from non-use. Here's why I think this is in play for a 996. I read a write up from a guy who did his own RMS replacement. He didn't drain the oil prior taking everything apart and was surprised when he opened up the seal area and oil didn't pour out. When at rest the oil sits below the seal so it isn't getting the benefit of lubrication. Nor are other parts in there. Draw your own conclusions.

So whats the going rate for a RMS change these days?

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 6239896

next question please

POST 9Original post

I wouldn't touch it at that price. Needs to come down in price. Needs to pass PPI. Needs a really close look at the seals and a compression test.

POST 10Original post

Phil, are you reading all of these "extremely low mileage" comments?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 6240066

Yes, he's finding comfort in finding more freaks that inhabit his lonely low mileage world.

that is quite a bit below the crankshaft, its rotational diameter too, and below the IMS. The IMS and crankshaft area separated from the oil sump by a section of the engine casting. The RMS gets plenty of lubrication when engine running. Sincerely, Macster.

POST 14Original post

The problem as I see it with this low mileage queen is not the mileage, but the fact that it SITS FOR SIX MONTHS at a time, unused. Plenty of nice low mileage examples out there, but they are at least driven every few days.

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 6240113

That's my point. It get's lube when the engine is running, and not when it isn't. Same with all the internals nearby. Normally no problem, but perhaps a problem when it's sits unstarted for half the year.

Quotes source posts: 6240066, 6240097

Of course! C'mon Wayne, admit it. You're just jealous you don't have a car with 3500 miles where the mice who live in it wear Rolexes.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 6240140

I actually agree with Eric. Sure mine sits, but I start it or drive it at least once every 1-2 weeks during the winter (and spring, and fall, and summer... )

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 6240463

True, you do have a very nice mouse hotel there.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 6240467

WTF!?!?! Once ever 1-2 weeks! Are you crazy?!?! Drive that car!

POST 20Original post

Eventually you will have more posts here than miles on your car!

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 6240508

By next year, I should hit that milestone.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 6240880

That sounds like a plan to NOT increase the miles on the car ?????

POST 23Original post

Right now, with the temp around 35, and 3-6" snow forecast for Tuesday, it's hard to imagine driving it at all. But, I make my annual pledge to drive it more this year. It's certainly not appreciating in value just sitting in the garage, that's for sure.

POST 24Original post

Based on the condition of the seats and interior - I think that is true mileage. Get a CarFax and PPI - negotiate a lower price and I think you are good to go. There is nothing wrong with a garage queen if the car has been properly maintained and stored - IMHO.

I thought you would see Loren's post and think you were redeemed. But he was takling about Garage Queens, not Garage Fixtures!

POST 27Original post

I would buy it! The car will be brand new feeling, with super low miles!

Interested Wayne? We can talk....

POST 31Original post

I simply do not get why people don't drive their $100K cars. What exactly are they thinking? It's not a collector car. They are a dime a dozen.

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 6242351

I pay $150/month for storage, but the mice are paying me $200/month for the use of my car. So, I figure I'll be up around $200 this winter.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 6246195

Of course you're right. Absolutely no argument. These are anything but collector cars. But, what am I thinking?? I'm thinking I'm neurotic and a bit nuts. So, there's my rationale for keeping it perfect. I really love having a car this beautiful stay that way. It literally is a time capsule car. Speaking of capsules, time for my meds ...
