Seems like using a hammer as a fly swatter but some dealers understand nothing less than a big whack up side of their collective head to make it clear you expect them to uphold their part of the bargain that was made when the car was purchased.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A friend of mine had his 996 C4 cab in for service at a local dealer.
He questioned how often to change/flush anti freeze. They told him they never do unless doing other service work where it is required.
They just top it off if needed. Any thoughts?
He also has a problem wtih his windows. They now go half way down when opening door rather then the 1/4 inch increment . Resetting does not solve the problem. Dealer said they had never seen it before and could not fix it.
He does not post here. Just trying to illicit the help of the experienced hands on
board at Rennlist. thanks in advance for any insight on either issue
anti-freeze is just a top off, its a sealed (closed) system (this is how the dealers handle it, yeah crazy)... thats why you should only use porsche anti-freeze.
most likely your window regulator is going bad... this is a common problem as well.
prevent corrosion and resist boil over and freezing.
Your friend should not rely upon dealer for advice on when or even how to service his vehicle to prolong its life. Do not know the year of the car but after 4 years coolant nearer its end of life than its beginning.
It should be drained and replaced with the proper anti-freeze/distilled water mixture.
Might be time to have brake fluid flushed/bled as well.
While he's there and if he intends to keep car awhile longer, have tranny/diff fluid changed as well.
If dealer objects, suggest your friend ask if dealer will not agree to his request for servicing his car can dealer recommend a reputable place to take the car? Dealer will change his tune pronto. The few times I ran into this attitude I just thanked dealer's employee (service writer usually which know less about the cars than the salesmen) for his opinion and asked the car be scheduled for the service.
Dealer would rather sell your friend another car vs. helping him keep his current one in good working order. And if your friend traded in car you can bet dealer would if it could find a way slap a CPO sticker on that sucker and move it for as much money as it could.
Sincerely,
Macster.
to have coolant and other fluids changed.
That dealer admits he can't fix it would I think constitue consumer fraud. He's a Porsche dealer and supposedly has at his disposal factory trained techs and support from the factory. Have your friend tell the dealer a major factor in his purchase of the vehicle was the assurance of being able to have it serviced and repaired properly. That this dealer claims it can't do this means the car was misrepresented to your friend.
Consumer fraud.
