Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When spectating, beware! Have you ever wondered why they make you sign those liability waiver forms? http://www.big-boys.com/articles/bigf1crash.html

POST 3Original post

damn that sucks. I guess thats why they don't let spactators that close 2 the track anymore. that clip, if it is f1, has 2 be at least a few years old.

POST 4Original post

Speaking of beware of spectators, this month's R&T has an article about the le mans car that flew into the crowd and killed about 100 people in June 1955. It has the perspective of three american drivers, including Phil Hill, who were there.

POST 7Original post

Ekename: That was the Mercedes with the air brake, correct? It is also why MB has not been into racing for a while.

POST 8Original post

Did the last slow mo replay showed that guy in the yellow rain gear get creamed? Damn.

POST 9Original post

Yetis, Yes. It was the 300 SLR. The cars back then were relativley fragile and when it crashed it literally disintegrated into the crowd of spectators. Here is an article about the car... http://www.fast-autos.net/mercedes/mercedes300slr.html

POST 10Original post

That clip was terrible. Never knew spectating can be hazardous to your health/life.

POST 11Original post

I think the clip is from an F3000 race and I think the track is Donnington. Terrible accident. I wonder if those guys were track marshalls?

POST 12Original post

Many years ago I was in the stands at the starting line at Carlsbad Raceway (dragstrip) when a Corvette blew his clutch up on a start. A guy sitting about two people away got hit in the abdomen with pieces, enough to send him off in an ambulance. Not in the same universe as the clip, but close enough.

POST 13Original post

Not too many years ago a spectator was killed at an Indy car race (one of those ones through a city) by a flying wheel. It happens more often than you'd think.

POST 14Original post

Yeah, I think a marshall was killed by a wheel off Jacques Villeneuve's car in an F1 race (Australia?) a few years ago. Also, during a CART race at Michigan a few years back I think 2 or 3 fans were killed by debris flying into the stands. It's happened in the IRL (Charlotte) and even at Indy - guy was killed in the top row, by a wheel/tire! So this is nothing really new. It's like a hockey game (remember hockey?) - keep your eye on the action at ALL times, and hope you can get out of the way.

POST 15Original post

Well, the flying wheel issue seems to be addressed now in F1 racing with wheel tethers. I would say that Kimi Raikkonen is very happy about wheel tethers. Unfortunately, like most safety advances in motor sports (and others), someone needs to suffer before they become mandatory...

POST 16Original post

Yep, tethers have been in use for some time now in F1, Champ Car, and the IRL. But even they only minimize flying wheels. In a solid 200 MPH impact, the tether can only do so much.

POST 17Original post

Those aren't probly not spectators but rather marshalls / track crew given their clothing in bright yellow and there is only 15 ppl or so there. Fences should have been raised for protection. Those barriers seem very short. Bad place to be for sure.

POST 18Original post

I think the marshalls are the ones in most danger at races today. The aformentioned fatality involving Villenueve's wheel was a marshall. You do need to be careful but even paying attention probably won't save you if it hits the fan. These things just happen too fast.
