Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just replaced the electronic ignition switch with help of a tutorial on the DIY Rennlist forum... I barely fit upside down in the footwell but managed to to contort myself and get the job done for $8.95. Im pumped to tackle the next project with help from this great forum. Cheers and neck pains

POST 2Original post

Take 2 Alleve and have another drink, well done.

POST 3Original post

Way to go! Isn't it satisfying doing this stuff yourself? Plus all the money you save... I gotta say, being able to DIY a lot of stuff is one of the big unknown bonuses of these cars. When I was still talking my wife into letting me get one, that was her big concern (after the expense of keeping up a high mileage MB)... but every time I do a DIY I show her what it cost and what it should have cost and that helps to support my reason for getting one. Nice job! Rudy

POST 4Original post

nice DIY.... starts small, then work yourself up to RMS/IMS DIY when it happens, the Holy Grail of DIY.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Barn996.... Cheers! finished off a Guiness 4 pack. Neck is good today. Rudy.... very satifying indeed. The ignition was gettin more and more difficult to turn then friday afternoon I pulled the key outta the ignition and the electronics stayed on... So it was either wait for my Indy to reopen on Monday of do a quick search and fix it myself. Glad I have that experience under my belt. Next up, brake pads and oil change this weekend. Redridge..... RMS/IMS whats that??? I suppose that DIY is the grail. Im going to wait on the upgrade until I install a lift in my warehouse. One thing at a time.

POST 6Original post

I just did my ignition switch too after a couple of intermittent no starts. The job was easier than it looks. Took the switch apart and it had destructed just like Toolpants on RennTech had shown. You can see how the broken part jams the contact and bends the spring. One unexpected plus of the replacement switch is a quicker crank speed.

POST 7Original post

I did my right side low beam OK so its no biggy.

I had to replace mine a few moths back as well and returning the fixture back to its original position was tricky since the previous owner managed to break off the alignment tabs on that particular light. As it happens the ignition switch had been changed before also and replaced with an audi part. The part I replaced the audi part with was a VW... exactly the same part but cheaper by $7.00.
