Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once you have the handle off, sand it using 220 & 400 grit paper, sand the alum handle.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm contemplating a color change on my car. Zero'ing in on Forest Green Metallic & Natural leather. As part of this, I'm using some spare interior parts to test color schemes which includes an E-Brake. The spare E-Brake I have had a badly battered Aluminum handle and end button. I wondered if I could spruce them up. The alum handle piece looked like the drivers had beat on the handle with a ring for 20 years. Really dinged up. Sadly I didn't take a before photo but if you look at the used E-brakes for sale on ebay and you'll see how it looked. I really hesitated to take sand paper for the handle but the re-newal process ended up being remarkable simple.
To remove the handle, use a heat gun on the handle. Aim mostly at the metal. Get it nice and hot. Slide the whole handle forward. The 'glue' is almost like wax. Very much like what you use to smooth pool table cracks.
1. Once you have the handle off, sand it using 220 & 400 grit paper, sand the alum handle. Try to remove as many of the dings as possible. There were dings all around the Porsche lettering. I didn't want to sand too much right around the lettering but gave the rest a real sand. Surprisingly, the handle didn't need to be perfect.
2. Clean and make sure the lettering doesn't have any grit in it and paint the whole thing using Artic Silver basecoat. See photo for the materials I used.
3. Once dry, use a small brush to gob some black enamel paint into the letttering recesses. Wipe excess off with a paper towel. Sparingly use some mineral spirits to assist with getting any black off of the handle.
4. Clearcoat. Done.
You can basically do the same with the button on the end.
The materials. Black enamel (same stuff we used as kids to paint models) Blue shop papertowel - DO NOT use cloth with any kind of fuzziness. Paint matching spray basecoat & topcoat & mineral spirits.
Finished e-brake. btw, I'm now doing all my sewing and I'm experimenting with a dark green thread for deviating effect to match the exterior. Still on the fence but the wife likes it. But that's a different discussion.
Handle after gobbing the black enamel paint into the lettering and wiping off the excess. This is pre-topcoat.
Handle sanded & painted with artic silver basecoat.
Here is an older post where I provide an overview of how I did the leather part of an e-brake re-fresh. Together they provide a full picture of re-freshing a complete E-Brake.
