Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off great forum! I am making a move on a 2001 c2 with 18k miles. It was amazing. I am leaving behind a 335i which has been a blast. What has been crazy is how different each 996 drives. I have driven 2 99's. One was a cab with 21k miles and the other was a coupe with 70k. I was not impressed by the drive of either. Then I drove a 2001 c2 with 100k miles. That drove much better but the 01 c2 coupe with 18k felt so tight and new. It is silver with the dark blue leather interior. I am a little nervous but sometimes you have to say what the f***. If all goes well I will update with pictures.

POST 2Original post

Right on !! welcome... yes they are differant, my old car was wonderful and I drove some even better!! (then I drove a couple "not so better" ) get a PPI, plan for a few mods and upgrades, make sure the car was maintained (even though low miles there are still things that need to be done) and be aware that once you start racking the miles on it some things might pop up since they were not used much (so far) post pics and again WELCOME (oh and location is helpful too)

I'd go for it. Make sure you get the PPI and a have a reserve in cash set aside for 'stuff' like Ed is eluding too.

POST 6Original post

these cars actually gets faster as they age.... gl on the purchase.... +1 for pics.

POST 8Original post

GL with your next Porsche purchase, as mentioned, service history and a PPI that is thorough should help you with the correct choice.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for all the encouragement I am up in Santa Barbara. so the deal is a 2001 c2 with 18K miles with regular sevice. Car is super mint. they want $27,600. Are they out of there minds. It is at a Porsche dealer. All regular service has been completed. I will have a PPI done. I started looking for one a month or so ago. Should I keep looking or pull the trigger. Thoughts? POST 10Original post

Since it's at a P dealer, they are tacking a nice premium onto the market price of the car; but if they're serious about moving it, take some trade-in or Edmunds or KBB values to them and work from there. They may offer a warranty from a third party ( Easycare, etc), but that's your call or what other members here may chime in. Ask if the car has had IMS or RMS work done on it and mileage on the clutch and or brake jobs since that'll require a good amount of labor and/or expense on your part. good luck on your purchase...

POST 11Original post

I'm a total newb trying to find a 2002-2004 C4S for a decent price. With that in mind, I cannot ignore the talk about low mileage garage queens being troublesome once they become daily drivers. Just throwing that out there.

You will probably be able to get it for 25-26k, I think that is not a bad price for a super low mileage, mint condition, maintained car, no ? I know this is close to price of higher mileage MY02, but from a Porsche dealer in mint condition I think it sounds like a decent deal. too bad it is not a CPO. I think the extra money for CPO is well worth it to keep peace of mind. If you think about taking aftermarket warranty, they are very expensive 2k-3k. So factor this is when buying your car. As you might be better buying a CPO instead, as CPO warranty is even better from what I've been reading around here.

Phil, The CPO is better but this car is too old. Only 8 year old and newer P-cars are eligible.
