It is not more difficult to do a P-car than anything else, in fact it may be easier than most where you can set all wheels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last time I got one was in college after some front end work on my olds.... my 02 996c2 with 80k miles seems to have never had one according to the records... how do I know one is needed? tire wear is fine, steering is stright... but I read here about guys getting them with new tires or new wheels etc... thanks

POST 2Original post

if your "alignment guy" is worth a crap, he should be able to shoot it in and tell you were it's at.. and advise if you need adjustments or not... Thats the only real way of knowing without having some underlying issue (unless your eye is calibrated to 0.01 degrees) again the point it you need the right guy/gal (to be PC) someone you trust who can tell you

POST 3Original post

these cars a re alignment sensitive.... my indie swears to having it aligned every year. That might be to extreem for me but.... yeah having it checked with a new set of tires may be worth it for longevity since you are reaching towards 100k miles with the new set.

POST 5Original post

A good alignment shop will charge $200-300 for a complete 4-wheel alignment. However, they will also put it in the rack and measure the as-is before proceeding. If it's OK, they won't charge you. OTOH, Big-O or the like charge $69 for a quickie if you need it or not. Nothing wrong with either approach, depends on your preference.

POST 6Original post

it doesnt matter what the cost or who does it (here in my area there is one Discount tire that has a great rep on exotics and P-cars???) what matters is its done right (or checked right) if they dont bother asking your weight and if you track the car or how often you have passengers... keep looking. My guy weights the car so it is set right WITH me in the car

POST 7Original post

If your car handles fine, not pulling to one side or another, tire wear seems the same right to left, and you can let go of the steering wheel for a moment and have the car track straight and true at speed (100-120mph for me) then your alignment is most likely ok. Now, there are several different ways to align the car, factory specs are good of stock size tires for original ride height and stock shocks and springs for average driving by average people. You won't go wrong here, but it may not be exactly right either. You can tune the suspension to bring out certain handling characteristcs, but tire wear may suffer. I good specialty shop can help you here. Aligning a car is not a difficult proceedure or black art by any means. It is a straight forward simple process if you have a rack and the proper tools. A good shop should be able to do a 4 wheel alignment in an hour or less. It is not more difficult to do a P-car than anything else, in fact it may be easier than most where you can set all wheels. My guy has over 20 years experience and tackels a lot of difficult situations, also does a lot of SCCA race cars. He charges $55.00 and it last time I was in and out in under an hour. The price you pay has nothing to do with the quality of job you get.
