Unsuccessful attempt

I had a similar noise and the dealer replaced the front control arms when I told them it was likely a sway bar end link. The control arms didn't fix it so I checked the end links and sure enough the driver's side joint was broken.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apparently it wasn't the drop links or sway bar, as I expected. It was actually worn strut mounts/braces. The dealer told me that they don't see this often, only on higher mileage cars like mine (roughly 95K miles), but still rarely. They did go ahead and check and tighten up everything else in the suspension to confirm this problem. My other nagging complaint has been windshield washers that work intermittently. That one turned out to be a bad relay. On the bright side, they had to order parts for both repairs, so this one won't be digging into my Christmas shopping budget!

POST 3Original post

Always good to hear updates on problem posts. Thanks, Phil

POST 4Original post

Good to have your Porsche running in tip top condition Dennis. Deferred fix = deferred pay't. Is this your first time with a new dealer in Co?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is indeed my first trip to this dealer in the 996. I've had the Cayenne in before. In reviewing my invoice, they have actually ordered "strut mounts and angular bearings". Interesting also that this dealer uses Castrol Syntec oil. My Indiana dealer used Valvoline synthetic.

POST 6Original post

Funny, same thing here a month ago at 44k. Did the driver side to see if that would resolve it, but apparently both are bad. Was confirmed by lubing the passenger side, and now all is quiet. Sort of an odd issue at this low of mileage.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Maybe the rubber wears with age as well as mileage...

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It makes a knocking noise when I go over speed bumps or rough roads, even at very slow speeds. Mine sounds like it's coming more from the right front wheel area, but I'm having both sides replaced.

POST 10Original post

I had a similar noise and the dealer replaced the front control arms when I told them it was likely a sway bar end link. The control arms didn't fix it so I checked the end links and sure enough the driver's side joint was broken. Even though under CPO I decided to buy the $35 part from Pelican and did the quick swap - noise gone.

POST 11Original post

I had the strut brace bearings replaced under warranty on my Boxster for the same reason many years ago. Probably had under 20K miles at the time and would exhibit symptoms in low speed turns, etc. It was actually a fairly common problem at the time.

POST 12Original post

My car has a similar noise in the front end. Do you have the part numbers for the strut mounts and angular bearings?

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 8135212

That's ^ good news. Otherwise you would have had to say..... "Sorry Honey, I was going to get you a Christmas present, but the Porsche needed strut mounts and a windshield washer relay. Better luck next year!"

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8137519

Yeah... that would have gone over well!! I don't yet have the part numbers - I'll post them when the parts come in after Christmas.

POST 16Original post

Dennis, at which dealer do you have your car serviced? I'm in Castle Pines so not too far from you. Stevinson?, Prestige? Just bought my car last week and am not sure where to take it. Thanks,

POST 17Original post

I heard very good thing about this place. Eurosport Limited 1855 W Union Avenue Englewood, CO 80110 [phone removed]

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took mine to Prestige, but that's just because it's closest to my house. So far, I've been pretty happy with them. I've also heard good things about 3zero3 motorsports.
