When I was in the market for my porsche, I had nice 993tt in connecticut being sold by a dealer with porsche warranty..which I flew and checked out...ran a carfax...and the histork did not sound right, it seemed like the previous owner had the car for several years and added no milage...later the dealer inquired about it, and found out that the odometer was not working for a while

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am interested in buying a 996 Turbo and have been luring on this board for 6 months. This is my first post. I think I found a car I like. Can someone please run a carfax for me?
Thanks in advance for your help. Hopefully it will come back clean. Sad to see the 2001 Corvette go though.

No, I don't mind paying but I know many people have unlimited subscriptions. I've also never seen the report so not really sure what it is. I plan to have the car checked my the local Porsche dealership. It is an out of state purchase.

Your post is gonna get pulled most likely, so enjoy it while it's still up.
Philip--good observation--Can't afford a $30 one month unlimited subscription to CarFax but you don't bat an eye about spending $80K on a Porsche?
Morality of doing Carfax's for others aside, fact is the customer agreement one signs when they buy the service says they won't run it for others. So, if you have needs that Carfax doesn't address, contact them. If you can't or won't spend the $25-$30 for the Carfax service, please don't use Rennlist to ask others to do something in violation of their agreement with Carfax.
I did not know there was a customer agreement or anything like that. Again, I have never used it before. I frequent the corvette forums. It has been common practice for users on that board to post such requests and I have noticed many such requests on this board over the past few months. I thought there were dealers on the board that offer it to other users. My bad.
Any thoughts on the usefulness of these reports? What are they? The sample reports on the web page contain very little usefull information.

Adam,
As to your question of the uselfulness of a carfax, I'll give you my opinion....I think it is one of the essential components of buying a pre-owned vehicle, it would not suffice on it's own...as you said a PPI, you seeing the car etc. will be needed as well, but for the nominal fee, it's worth it.

, and returned my deposit. Atleast for your piece of mind, I think it's worth it.
Jeeva:
Thanks. I ordered the report and it came back clean. I agree, it's a good first step. I will have the local Porsche dealer do a PPI before I lay down the big bucks. I have a call into the service manager. What is the typical charge for a PPI?
Thanks,
Adam
