FWIW, I'm running 11' et 52 with a 285 tire on a lowered MY01 C4 without rolled fenders.

For example, I run the 235/40 on my street wheels with no problem (8.5" wheel) but on my 8.5" and 9" track wheels I run the 245/40 tire which is 10mm wider and also a few tenths of an inch taller so I get rubbing of the tire on the fender liner at full lock.

Hey guys.
Im thinking of ordering bbs lemans finally and I wonder if I should go with 10" or 11" in the rear, my fenders are rolled or whatever it called.
Im thinking of 11" but will they fit?
Porsche 996 c2
Regards // Norbert
Of course they will. It's the offset that you need to worry about. Remember, the GT3 wheel is 11" wide and has a offset of 63. I wouldn't get much more aggressive than that.
I don't think it will be that good. Having an offset of 56 will be like adding a 7mm spacer to the stock GT3 wheels. I wouldn't be comfortable with that.
FWIW, I'm running 11' et 52 with a 285 tire on a lowered MY01 C4 without rolled fenders. I thought the offset was too aggressive but the people at victor equipment insisted they would fit blah, blah, trust me, blah, blah.
I took a big chance and bought them after they sent me pictures of the same wheels on other NB cars. Well, the wheels do "fit" and don't extend beyond the fenders but it's extremely close. That being said, I wouldn't go beyond the GT3 specs again.
You might want to check the PCA forum. Joel Reiser fields loads of questions about this. There's plenty of room in the rear. The front is a different story.
They'll fit, but maybe you should look for wheels with offsets closer to the GT3 63 mm.
Regarding the front, what's the offset of the BBS Lemans? And what width are you considering? The C2 (18"x8" wide) front offset is 50mm, if I'm not mistaken.
Personally I would not take the risk of an off-set less than 63 for 11's at the rear. Having 63 allows for a wider tyre to fit which the 11" wide wheels are designed for 295+. Tippy can attest to having the wrong off-set with 11's on a NB also.
So stick with GT3 off-sets and you can't go wrong. Do anything else and you are taking a risk.
Okey this is how it looks.
Front 8.5x18" ET56
Rear 11x18" ET56
The store tells me that BBS dont offer any less agressive ET for our Porsche c2 when it comes to 11"
What should I do guys?
+1
Will more aggressive offsets on the rear work? Yes, but with compromises. On an 11" wheel a 295 tire is just about perfect. You may be able to work it with narrower tires, but then why go with an 11" wheel. The ideal rim range for a 285 tire is a 9.5" to 10.5" inch wheel.
I am pretty sure, because I have researched running 18's on my NB for the track and was told the correct off-sets are as follows:
Front:
8.5x18 = 40mm
8.0x18 = 50mm
Rear:
11x18 = 63mm
I got these confirmed by people on this forum, but wait for others to chime in.
OK well I know what I am getting based upon factory wheels off-sets for my NB in which I will be using factory GT3 wheels with the offsets I listed.
GL with your research then and keep us posted
Thanks Ray. So 56 seems too much for a 8.5 on the front, do you agree ?
Besides I have never heard anyone running the same offsets for the front and rear on a Porsche.
Just clear up a few things.....
The GT3 wheels are:
8.5" et40
11" et 63
And now a little education on the offsets......
As the number gets SMALLER the FURTHER out they will protrude. The LARGER the number the further INWARD they will go.
NOBY.....it sound like you are trying to "fit a round peg into a square hole". Why are you not trying to find the proper sizes that will fit instead of asking a million different ways if the same wheels you are set on will fit. THEY WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY AND NO MATTER HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS YOU ASK THEY WILL NOT BE THE RIGHT WHEEL FOR YOU!!!!!
Not sure why they do that other than to sell wheels NOBY......we went through this crap a year or two ago with the iForged wheels. The company REFUSES to give out the offsets but claim they are a perfect fit. Well guess what? They aren't. Who defines "perfect fit" in this case?
The benchmark you NEED to follow is finding an offset/wheel combo between the stock wheels and the GT3 wheels.
Oh well guys, Ill take your words on this matter and skip the 11"
How wide tires can I go on 10" in the rear? Is it a big difference between 10" and 11" ?
Well using my "new math" your wheels would sit 2mm further in than what I am using now.
Now I am lowered and have -2.5 negative camber in the back and I don't run "fat" tires. 30 series on a 295-315 is the range that works back there for me.
Feel free to do your own math using
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
Also, for the naysayers.. Porsche recommends an 18x10 ET 47 fittment for winter use on our cars and also advocates using a 17mm spacer with your stock 18x10 ET 65 changing the effective offset to ET 48.
NOBY's setup will be 4-5mm further out than what porsche recommends stock. As long as his car is lowered and is running more than 1.5 degrees negative camber and he doesn't do anything dumb like stick a 285/35 or 295/35 he should be good to go.
No flames please.
If you don't have the camber and more importantly spring rate to hold the car then go on out as far as you want and just wait for the fender to pretend your tire is a turkey waiting to be carved on Thanksgiving
BBS is kinda backwards with fitment. You'd think they'd have great fitment options for the 911, but they don't. It's actually quite sh!tty their fitment selection. Like they don't make a good fitment 12" rear for the widebodies.
And here in this case, same goes for 11s for the narrowbodies. It's messed up because they make awesome wheels and so perfect for the 911.
NOBY, I have 18" OEM 10" wide rear wheels with 65mm offset and have 295/30/18 PS2 tires on them. No issues, but as Ray said, the bead is slightly stretched out, but not much. Would I go it again? YES!
Wow, this is really started to become more difficult than it needs to be.
NOBY.......the 18"x10" wheel with an offset of 65 is your FACTORY wheel for the 996 Narrow Body.
As I said before, if you find a wheel between 10"et65 and 11"et63 you will be perfect!
NOBY, I agree with Dell, and you know I HATE it when that happens.
Here is the breakdown on how the fit would be if going FROM an 18" OEM wheel that is 10" wide with a 65mm offset and replacing it with an 18" wheel that is 11" wide with a 63mm offset.
- The face (outside) of wheel will EXTEND an additional 15mm compared to the 10" wheel, and
- The inner clearence will be 12mm LESS than 10" wheel.
For comparison sake, if you went with the 11" wheel with a 56mm offset (
not recommended
), the face (outside) of wheel will EXTEND an additional 22mm compared to the 10" wheel. That is almost 1 full inch farther out than the OEM wheel, which is a LOT!
I understand guys.
So if I choose 10" in the rear the ET will be 65 but still 8.5 in front they tell me it will be 56 and what you guys telling is that et56 in front wont work?
What the hell does people with bbs lemans 18" on their porsche have, I dont get this
The 8.5" wheel with a 56mm offset will leave the face (outside) of the wheel in the same as an OEM 8" wheel with a 50mm offset. However, you will have 12mm LESS inside clearence compared to an OEM 8" wheel with a 50mm offset.
I am not sure if this would give you any problems with rubbing on the inside. CAn anyone comment on this, please?
I realy dont get this, what does people run on their porsche when they have bbs lemans if the ET that bbs provides does not work, this is freaking strange I have to say.
Not sure I follow NOBY. This is very simple, the LM only comes in a couple size that will fit your car properly. Stop making this so difficult on yourself.
Front:
8" et50
9" et50
Rear:
10" et65
10" et50
ps. if it was me I would do the bolded ones in this post
Noby
I understand your confusion because I went through this recently. While Im no authority on this matter, I'll try to explain.
Porsche recommends an 11 wheel with a safe 63 et offset for your car. If using a smaller offset, the tire could extend beyond the fender, rub somewhere inside the wheel well, or make contact when you hit a bump. Tire size, suspension set up & rolled fenders are probably the main factors how far beyond a 63 mm offset you can go.
The 11' wheel with the 57 et offset will definitely "fit" on your car (especially with your fenders rolled) but "fit" can be subjective. Put the same 11 wheel on 100 different C2s, some owners will say they fit and others will say they dont.
Since youre also getting a new suspension the car can could be set up to accomodate the wheels you want but you may lose some flexibility in choosing tire size, suspension settings and handling characteristics.
I took a risk and bought an 11 wheel with et 52, but I also had to use a 285 tire and have my suspension adjusted
. I probably wouldn't go below ~ 60 on an 11' wheel if/when I get different wheels.
I think they the wheels you're considering would look great, but purchasing an expensive 11' BBS wheels with an offset <63, shipping them to Sweden for use on a car being set up for the track is taking a risk
. Buying an 11 wheel with an offset >63 is zero risk.
Like slick willie once said it depends on what your definition of what the word is. is..depends on what your definition of the word fit is.
GL
This car is not going to be a track car, its gonna be a street car, but it may see the track sometimes.
So if I go ET50 on both and rear, wont that be to agressive low, that the wheel will hide to much?
Right now it looks like this and I think its perfect it lines up with the fenders and body awsome, and I want to keep it like this, dont want the wheel hidden more in.
http://www.vtracker.se/porsche/wheel_fender.jpg
NOBY...looking at the pic in your link the rear sits OUTSIDE the rear fender. If you want to know what it will look like on your car in the 9"et50 for front and 10" et50 for the rear then look at a GT3 (or NB car) with GT3 wheels and you will need to visualize the front 4mm pushed in and the rear will be identical. IMHO, that is perfect for you!
Like this? I think this is to much pulled in, I rather have like my have on the picture I showed.
http://www.revozport.com/webpics/por...up-rot_036.jpg
Is this orginal wheels? I think the front looks perfect but the rear looks a bit to much pulled in, is this what you mean?
http://axheden.se/img/Porsche996C2/porsche_c2_01_04.jpg
Well, you can get that look if you go with the one's I bolded post #51. After that, then you could add the OEM 5mm spacers if you wanted to get a little more aggressive if not satisfied at that point.
Noby, you do realize that the GT3 RS you pictured has a fair amount of negative camber in the rear. That camber will allow a more agressive offset (because the top of the tire will be canted inward at the top of the tire). However, that degree of camber will also result in very bad treadwear on a "street driven" car.
This are my two options I belive, Im a bit afraid which combo will have the best rear look as like that gt3rs exacly on the fender so it lines up nice with the body and the front.
Last opinion guys before I order, give me your thought beside this 60 pages
18 x 9 5-130 ET50
18 x 11 5-130 ET56
18 x 10 5-130 ET50
18 x 9 5-130 50
Noby, you realize the tires and set-up are also part of the equation. What size tires are you going to use on the wheels you list above? How much camber do you intend to run on the rear wheels?
Im not sure but I want to run 285 at least maybe 295 if its possible, when it comes to camber Im n00b dont know nothing about that, only that my coilovers that I will install can be camber adjusted.
Run the following:
9 et50 front with 235 or 245/40/18 rubber
10 et50 with 285/40/18 rubber
If you go with the 11" wheel with the 56 offset and it sticks out a tad too far you are going to be pissed! If you sole purpose for going after the 11" is to run 295's there is NO NEED TO! Run the 285 on the 10" wheel. You could probably squeeze a 295/30 in the 10" wheel but why?
Noby, listen to this man, he knows what he;s talking about.
As Dell stressed there is no reason to go with a 285 exception being is if a set of wheels came with something other than that.
Listed below are the wheels you selected and the change (in mm) in clearance in the inside and outside of the wheel. Too little inner clearance and the wheel can rub the struts, push too far out and you'll rub the fender
18 x 9 5-130 ET50 -13mm/+13mm
18 x 11 5-130 ET56 -4mm/+22
18 x 10 5-130 ET50 +15/+15
18 x 9 5-130 ET50 -13mm/+13mm
Dell, is correct that the second group will probably fit the best. However, it represents a 1" increase (in width) at the front and no increase at the rear. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but you could run a 235/285 tire combo with that that should work pretty well.
The first set is risky on the rears but it may just work (no guarantees just my educated guess) if you run 235/285 combo and a touch more rear camber than factory specs. If it works that may give you the fender filling look you want.
Good luck.
+1 on what Ray and Dell have stated. The second set of wheels listed in Ray's post (#68) above is what I would do. Once you have them mounted, if you wanted them pushed out more (which I doubt that you will) you could add 5mm spacers.
On the other hand, if you get the 11" rear and they stick out too far and the tires rub on the fenders, then you will be stuck with $1,900 of rear wheels that don't fit well.
Ray S says something about an 1" increase that does not make any sense, what does he mean?
I have emailed in my order on the 50ET versions as LVDELL recommended, everything hands on you m8 =) hah...
Thanks for all help, I will update this thread when they arrive =)
The factory wheel is an 8" wheel and you are moving to a 9" wide front wheel which is a 1" increase. Since you are holding the offset constant at 50 you are adding 1/2 of that inch (13mm) to each side of the "factory" size. Doing that means the wheel will sit 13mm closer on the inside and 13mm further out on the outside. Sure, the outside looks great but giving up 13mm on the inside is what you need to be undestanding of. If you go to a wider tire than need be you are asking for rubbing issues. For example, I run the 235/40 on my street wheels with no problem (8.5" wheel) but on my 8.5" and 9" track wheels I run the 245/40 tire which is 10mm wider and also a few tenths of an inch taller so I get rubbing of the tire on the fender liner at full lock.
I think you should be just fine without any rubbing issues up front as long as you stick with the 235/40.
If you need justification to go with the 11 ET56. Read the following.
TireRack recommends an 18x11 ET55
Techart sells and recommends an 18x11 ET51 (even more aggressive)
LInks explicitly talking about 18x11 ET56 and it fitting:
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...95&postcount=5
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...d.php?t=115010
I would strongly consider the experience of those that have done it vs. those with opinions about why it won't work
Paul, I couldn't imagine putting a 7mm spacer on my rear wheels to bring my offset from 63 to 56. IMHO that is a recipe for rubbing disaster.
The problem here is that while a 56 offset might work, nobody is talking tire sizes and more importantly suspension setup!
FYI....if you are referring to my comments I don't understand why you think mine posts are opinions and the others are actual experience. You are trying to compare SUBJECTIVE experience of those that have to the TRUTH of what is supposed to be done. FYI.....I have wheels in 11" in the rear with 295 rubber and an offset of 63 and would not rec'd doing any more than that as you will start crossing into that "grey" area for rubbing, etc.
I'm done. NOBY.....best of luck to you in your search. Just remember, if you chose the 11" wheel with the 56 offset, while it will "FIT" will it fit correctly and if you don't like it or it rubs, then who is going to exchange them out for you? Remember, you can ALWAYS add a spacer if you want to go OUT more but you CANNOT move it back in.
As an example, there was a few people on this board that I will not name that had wheels with offsets so damn aggressive they sat OUTSIDE the well obviously but according to them, they fit, and they like it. What do you want? Looks or proper fitment?
Time for me to unsubscribe form this thread and let others keep up the confusion for you as you just seem to be hell bent on getting an answer that the 11" will "fit". Keep trying to place that square peg in the round hole thinking it will fit but at the end of the day, no matter how many people tell you it will, the fact is that it is still a square peg. You have all the facts. Best of luck........
**I'LL POST A COUPLE PICS FOR YOU AND THEN LEAVE IT AT THAT**
Just went out to my garage to snap a few pics for you.
Pics of a 11" wheel with an offset of 63 and 295 rubber running 2.5 degrees of negative camber. Would you want to push this out another 7mm?
The pics aren't the best but you get the idea.
Here are a couple more pics.
On my blue Cab are 10" et65 with 15mm spacers, which is an effective et50.
This equates exactly to Dell's 11" et63 in relation to the outside of the rim, however these pics are with stock suspension and
camber
settings.
The black coupe has 10" et65 with 17mm spacers which means these wheels extend 2mm further out than those on my car and Dell's car.
Again, these are with stock suspension and
camber
settings.
Imagine these 7mm and 5mm respectively further outside the wheel well.
Hope this helps, Noby.
Dell: no not trying to start a war.
Kevin: great example in your pics.
I agree with you all; the pics of the black car look wrong and it is mostly due to the tire being too fat.
Look, I offered up the links to the other threads so that NOBY could ask the guys at tirerack directly (reputable; No?) and there are a bunch of folks that are running these that can offer their direct experience. That's all.
Dell good suggestion.. also unsubscribed
Just joshing buddy, there has been MORE than enough data to make a decision. I figured I couldnt add anything else so I resorted to a funny pic. If you cant figure it out by now after countless pages, well..............
GL
Nah....the wheel/tire was too tucked under the fenderwell..........I went with less camber and 200mm wheel spacers. I decided you dont need a stiff suspension if you are actually riding on the tire...................
Just been told that there is no 18x9 with porsche pattern, hmm.....
