Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use alot of felt in my previous mb's also' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check underneath it' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Previously, in other spots, I removed the vent panels on the dash, and used black silicone sealant (cures to rubber-like) on all the clip-ends and the points where they clip on to. That solved the squeaks there.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.
Use full roll of felt tape..everywhere..........it works wonders

Now I need to do the same but I need to remove the dash "gauge-housing" (whatever you call that) to check underneath it,

Suggestion
I also have the dash noise, have bought a rubber thing that someone recommended here before and will install it soon...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

.. of my 99 C2. Chalk it up to the
roads in SF. Sounds as though it is coming from the right corner in front of the passenger at the base of the A pillar. Having looked at the thread on the burnt 996 I am wondering if a weld or bolt has broken on the dash support. Anyone else experience something similar?
I don't hear any squeeks moans or groans in my 996....want to know why?? I drive with the top down ALWAYS!!! because when I don't...I feel like the P is going to collapse any minute!
There is a few common problems in that area. First it could be the upper defroster trim rubbing on the A-pillar, second it could be the windshield, there is a TSB on this, I believe there is a replacement rope that goes in or something...do a search on this one.Side note My TT groans and squeaks like a bastard in the colder weather.

lol...was wondering when you'd chime in again on my kwirk in kuality. I am trying to change things up with spelling with "kw" vs. "kui'....swapping here and there....kinda fun. Cue is overrated....my kid makes me play a game where you can't pronounce any words with "s" in it....not so easy. Reminds me of my laptop with missing letter and shift key on the left side. So now, you'll notice i'm lacking capitals at times too.

Cold weather, stiff chassis, sport suspension and tight tolerances/fit with all the interior trim pieces=squeaks and creaks. They all do it including the 993's and 997's.
I also have a share of minor creaks--but nice to hear I'm not alone. To be honest, I was a little surprised. But there is so much wood and leather around that I decided a few were inevitable. I think pongobaz hit it right--tight fit/tolerances with the trim! I think of it as saddelry, which has it's own set of creaks.
Did fix a couple with small pieces of bicycle tube. Not visible at all when in place.
I find Robin Trower (loud) works great. Hope to add PSE which should help too
I've slid enough felt in between the joints on the dash "console" (?) (the dome housing with the gauges) and the dash top, that I am about ready to tear up the whole thing to investigate further.

Anyone done that, is that an easy job?
