I believe the TPC kit uses a 7th injector instead of replacing the original injectors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a relatively low mileage 99 C2 (57K mi). Good car, but I am looking for more grunt. Been to some local shops who tell me, rightly so I think, that there is very little to be gained investing in aftermarket exhausts or chips. Has anyone pulled the motor and had it rebuilt with more horsepower? Looking for that GT3 performance. Or I guess I sell and move to a TT.

POST 2Original post

Put a centrifuge compressor on it and your have more performance that a TT for about $10,000 and the car will still drive like a Porsche.

POST 3Original post

Before I put the $$ in it to mimic a GT3, I'd get a GT3 (or as you say a TT). Not being smart, but I think these car's are what they are and you'd be better off getting the power when you buy it. I think you can spend a LOT more $$ on the 996 and end up not near the power a TT would give you IMHO. If you really wanting to keep the 996 and are willing to suffer the resale consequences, put in a supercharger. Just make sure you add the 3rd radiator.

POST 4Original post

1999Porsche911. Are these like superchargers? Can't say I've heard of these?

POST 5Original post

Sounds like he's talking about a centrifugal supercharger.

POST 6Original post

Yes, a supercharger. EVOM has one for your car.

POST 7Original post

Second choice is the TPC Eaton blower. Only drawback is the annoying whine around town, but it will provide more torque than a Centrifugal on the low end side of RPM. Runs about the same as the Evo kit. I would say the Evo kit is a lot better put together on the FI side. I believe the TPC kit uses a 7th injector instead of replacing the original injectors. You really cant extrudehone or port/polish the heads or intake, they are pretty well designed from the get go and you might lose flow afterwards. FVD I believe has bigger cams but you have to remove the factory rev limiter to take advantage of the higher RPM potential plus the 40 hrs of shop time to swap out the 4 cams. Not worth the $$$. So in a nutshell, boosting the motor is the only "real" way to make big hp gains.

POST 8Original post

Amgio - I understand were your coming from - I felt the same with my 03 Targa - So I performed the following upgrades: MAXFLOW - Muiffler. T504 Fabspeed Headers, Geic - Chip - K&N Cold Air Kit and BAM ! what an improvement, everyone tells my how much they love the exhaut note and the power is great - I think I paid about 4 -5K for all. Good Luck, let us know how you made out....

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the comments so far. I get the idea of going up market to a GT 3 or TT, but given the crappy re sale amounts on 99's right now, even those as nice as mine, the delta is big. I own the car out right and if I put the $$ in will not sell it, so let me re-ask the question. Has anyone pulled the engine and had a power rebuild? Given this is prior to e throttle and the like, is there a replacement motor that would work without too many difficulties. Strikes me that if there is a program to follow, many might take the plunge. So rennlisters what do you think?

POST 10Original post

I loved my C2 but like you I wanted more power...In the end I ended up with a TT, its the only way to go for power.Unless you charge the car nothing would really work and then that still would fall short or real close to TT.Save your money now and upgrade to a TT, or live with the current power, and really its still a powerful car and nothing to sneeze at

POST 11Original post

there was a guy that did a 3.8 upgrade that was for $24K+, an outfit in Fla done the conversion. For your 99 the X51 is not available here for us.... your options are very limited to these cars... you can do bolt on mods but, $5K+ for @30 hp is slightly noticeable. I didnt go for the FI route at first, but I gave in and done the conversion, performance is night and day... you should find someone that would give you a ride...

POST 12Original post

i am thinking of fi..... GB guys... i have one going on 6 speed and a thread here......... let me know....
