POST 2Original post

i dont get it... The porsche is obviously not racing him... and he isnt going that fast as there is a car behind the supra that stays constant the whole time... i just dont get it.. the video isnt showing or proving anything...

POST 3Original post

It's just your regular street racer. I'd like to add punk kid. Anyway, it's quite obvious the Porsche is not even racing him.

POST 4Original post

Maybe the car behind him is racing too. Sounds like the supra was getting on it and neither car was really dropping back like they weren't into the throttle too. Even if they did race, the supra TT would crush a C2. I don't really find the C2 all that fast, at least with highway roll ons anyway. I've messed around with some cars on the highway (SRT-4 modded, Golf 1.8T modded, Lightning modded, E36 M3) and had a hard time getting away from them till we got into some serious high end speed. Of course they don't look nearly as cool pulling up to the valet Amazing the kind of performance you can buy for under 30K now.

POST 5Original post

In the first video it's debateable whether they're racing (at the very least it's hard to tell) but in the second it definitely looks like they're both getting on it. Looks like a race to me. I don't doubt that a modded Supra would crush a NA 996 but I swear this is about the 20th supra 'racing' video I've seen where it's a rolling start from what looks like about 45mph. ?!?! wtf is up with that? Has anyone else noticed that? Are these things not so great off the line or does no one race from a standing start anymore? Keith

POST 6Original post

it's easier to race rolling if you've got a big HP car. too many traction issues. i've got a buddy who beats vipers off the line with his heavily modded mustang because they can't hook up. a lot depends on the driver though.

POST 7Original post

if you look at the videos carefully you will see they are racing... if they weren't the Porche would be falling far far behind and it's not; it's clearly trying to keep up...

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went through the same ordeal when I first viewed the first video... I thought the supra was just so slow it made it look like they were racing by him getting on it and slowly pulling forward. Then I veiwed the second video and I figured that he must have been racing because he got on it and the porsche tryed to stay on him... I work for a Chrysler/Mitsu/Nissan dealership, I'm a salesman, and I have driven an Evo 8, Chrysler Crossfire, Nissan 350z... The evo is the cheapest and it is a mean machine... a lot attendant bought a Dodge Neon SRT from us, cost him 16 gs... he put 4 gs into it and it would just destroy a 996. He put a vavle in it that releases everytime he lets off the gas or shifts to allow more air through the turbo... I'm proud of him though, he doesn't like nos, says he'll never install it.

POST 9Original post

That beeping coming from whatever boost controller or engine management system he has sounds real healthy, he's probably overboosting the **** out of it and the thing is going haywire trying to tell him not too.

POST 10Original post

I owned a 97' SupraTT, and with only an exhaust system (w/ downpipe) along with a boost controller mod I dyno'd 370rwhp. From a rolling start the Supra would stomp on most anything, especially my 996C2. However, my C2 is much better launching off the line. The first 60 feet my C2 would win, but after that it's no contest...the Supra would pull away just like in the video. The reason why they race at 45mph is all about turbo boost. You build turbo boost instantly (rev while braking) when you race from 45mph. The Supra can't build full boost from a standing start in first gear. I eventually sold the Supra because after the stupid "Fast n Furious" movies, it became the ultimate "ricer" car.

POST 11Original post

Its: That valve your friend with the SRT put in is called a blow off vavle (BOV). It actually releases air from the turbo to prevent overboost during shifts. The cars come with them, but the aftermarket ones are more reliable and have adjustable sound levels. I love the way it sounds when they have it cranked up. Sounds mean as hell between shifts. I've never heard one on a 996TT though. Probably too ricer for this crowd

POST 13Original post

Drag racing is for fast cars.... Road Racing is for fast drivers.

POST 14Original post

LanceK you hit the nail on the head. I just don't understand why people don't get it. Our cars were not made to be the fastest things on the road in a straight line. Are people out there that stupid to think that the Porsche engineers can't figure out how to build a car that can beat a modded ricer? I think they just might have had different goals in mind. What's funny is that you always see these videos shot on the street. I have yet to see something like this with say Daytona, Thunder Hill or Button Willow as the back drop.

POST 15Original post

Good point. I'm not trying to trash drag racing as I appreciate hitting an NHRA event every year or two. But I get tired of hearing these stories from "goons" and "punks" that have no real content or logic behind them. They never ever talk about the skills of the other driver, which is probably accurate as it's not a major factor. These videos really have nothing to do with how a car can perform or what it was designed to do as a total package. It really makes me laugh when these guys have contradicting excuses why one car is faster than another. If a lower horespower car is faster it's because "it 's so light". If a higher power car is faster it's because of the "V-8" or "turbo". Either way one car is faster than the other! I also don't advocate ANY kind of high performance driving on public roads. Take it to the track and then we'll see what car I mean driver is better...

POST 17Original post

If I wanted to drag race pimple poppers I would have found an good '70s style AMC Gremlin, throw out any extra weighty items like the great ricers do (seats etc.) and then NOS the S**T out of it until the blowoff valves send funny gas into the cabin so I can have a good hard laugh at all the hopped up Hondas and Subarus I'm flyin' by. A trip to Pep Boyz would have made my former 300ZX kick boodie on my C2 and I would have still had a ton of money left over for the latest deer hunter orange brake caliper paint and super saver neon light package. Don't get me wrong I've had my share of fun in rice poopers but when it comes time to get real...........................

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LoL, I posted these links for a laugh, I don't get why they call these "kills" the kids car is faster but... the power of a vehicle is only as useful as the suspension/wheels carrying it. Check this video out lol.. it's some guy "running fromt he police" in germany. In a 911 turbo... http://www.streetracersonline.com/videos/d2.php Porsche speeding through Stockholm, germany at night...

POST 19Original post

Um, last I heard Stockholm was in Sweden, not Germany.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow I think your right.. sorry lol stockholm sweden

POST 21Original post

How can you make the statement that a "Supra TT would crush a C2"? You can't possibly mean a stock Supra TT, because they just werent that fast. If you mean a modded Supra, well then its anyones game! It depends what was done and how well. Personally, I think a basic BPU Supra (90% of the modded Supras on the road) would end up coming down to driver skill against a C2. And at $30 grand, I fail to see how a 6 year old (at best) Toyota (that was $40 grand new!) is a bargain. Not to mention that nearly every Supra left in existance has a history of being smashed by some idiot boy racer and rebuilt.

POST 22Original post

I can make that statement because I had a 300zx TT and a bunch of my friends had Supra TT's. Way faster car. Even in totally stock form, it would beat a C2 in a roll on. Intake, Eprom, and cat back put the Supra TT's in the 12's at around 400HP. Those are no brainer mods with no tuning and cost around $1500. Rolls ons were very strong. Bigger injectors, turbo swap, etc easily net 600 HP on those cars and put them in the high elevens and you still haven't spent that much money. I'm only talking straight lines here. I can't comment on C2 vs. SupraTT on a track. Nor do I really care. Shoot, you can buy a Subura STi that will spank a C2 off the line and it costs less than half the money. Don't get me wrong here. I love my C2 cab, but I'm realistic that it's not that fast by today's standards. The Evo, Wrx, and the Neon will all give the C2 a run for it's money. I'm sure it's a great track car for those that actually do track days. Not to mention none of those cars inlcluding the supra, look half as nice.

POST 23Original post

spank a C2 off the line? Please elaborate. Spank sounds like an a##-whooping which it is not. Maybbe you are confusing the C2 with a Boxster. 0-60 times are slightly slower in the STi. Besides, my college roomate now works for Subaru NA as a regional manager and we have not only beat this argument to death (doesn't understand why I would drop damn near 100K for a car that I could have SIMILAR performance for 1/3 the cost--guess he will never understand) but as well we tested it out. As they say......close but no cigar.

POST 24Original post

Spank is probably a harsh word. I guess I mean it more in the embarassing sense that a 30K Jap 4 door Subararu is faster than a C2. Which it is. 0-60 sub 5, which the c2 is is 5 to 5.2 depending on what you read. I'm not saying go out and by a subie. Like I said in previous post, our cars are not that fast compared to what you can buy out there these days for a lot less money. I still love my car, but now that there are neons and pickup trucks that are about as fast out of the showroom, they don't afford much in the bragging rights department

POST 25Original post

I've timed myself in my 996 @ 4.65 seconds to 60 a few times.... how will the subaru spank me? you have to really abuse the clutch on the subaru just to "keep up"... and after 3rd gear... forget it...

POST 26Original post

Having your GF hold the stop watch while you beat the crap out of your car doesn't count for an official time Even Porsche lists the C2 at 5 seconds and slightly higher depending on the model. Porsche lists the turbo as 4.2 Ever race a turbo off the line in your C2? Big difference. From Porsche's website: The turbocharged flat-six combines unparalleled power from its 415 hp engine. Acceleration is phenomenal yet inherently secure, delivering 062 mph (100 km/h) in as little as 4.2 seconds*. 1/4 miles times are almost identical between the Sti and the C2. Not to mention that you can bump the HP up to insanse numbers with very little money on the subie. You ought to at least respect those little jap rockets. I didn't buy my C2 to drag race. If that was the case, I would most assuredly have bought something else. 5ish second cars are getting pretty common these days.

POST 27Original post

FYI.....the C2 is listed as 5.0 0-62 (translates to 4.9 0-60 so it IS sub 5 sec) and it is listed quite conservatively. By the way, why are y'all arguing about apples to oranges? I get into this discussion with my buddy at Subaru ALL THE TIME. For the last time....the demographic that Subaru markets to is NOT the same that PCNA markets. By the way, I like knowing that an entry level car like the C2 in the 911 line has NOTHING below it in it's model line.....where the subaru has several other Impreza models just like it that can be riced out to pass as an STi (and you can get into those for as cheap as 17K!). By the way, that is 50% of the STi. We have something like that in Porsche showrooms at close to 50% of the big brother...but it's called a Boxster (42K v. 70K)..and there is NO confusing that. Subaru really needs to make the STi a seperate car, not part of the impreza line and then I would look at it a second time. Bottom line.....STi is a great performance car but not one that is marketed to the 911 crowd. End of story.

POST 28Original post

One last point. Next time you pull up to a light and that SRT4 Neon or STi or EVO or whatever 20-30K rocket it is let them get their rocks off and rev it up and hear their lifters popping and their 4cyl whine......then rev up your 911 and let the PSE music growl and let them know WHO is higher up on the evolutionary chain! I love the 2nd take neck whips I get from these punks and then I let them take off and burn up their clutch and then I pull up to the next light with a slight grin on my face just knowing where I stand and what THEY aspire to own one day

POST 29Original post

DeputyDog, G-Tech was the stopwatch in my case and it's a qualified unit... Porsche website is conservative... 4.7 is documented in magazine tests for 1999 C2... targa and cabrio are in the 5's....
