I don't think it's all that necessary to run a 3rd radiator, but that's just me.

The only time my 99 did something like this the right front radiator fan was never going into high speed, it was running but only on low speed.

Suggestion

Lived without A/C for many miles until I figured out I could radically increase A/C efficiency, and thereby reduce the heat load to the engine water jacket cooling raidator, by going to max cool (used blower speed to regulate cabin comfort level) wherein A/C airflow REHEAT is completely OFF!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey there, My 1999 c2 cab always used to stay between the "8" and the "0" on the guage. Started now going to and staying mostly on the "0". I know most vehicles typically stay to the middle if not lower on the gauge. The "0" of definitely past the half way mark. I cleared some small debris from the front radiators to no avail. I also have noticed the rear deck cooling fan is not kicking on (the front radiator fans do). Does the rear deck fan blow hot air out or cool air in???? At what temp should it kick on??? The warning ( low coolant/no fan etc)light does not come on. The outside temp is no hotter than ever before. Coolant is full. Help..................

POST 2Original post

I have a 1999 C4 and my temp gauge is usually points just past the mid point and occaisionally well into the 0. I dont know if this is normal but the atlanta heat and the start and go traffic does not help the situation any. Mark

POST 3Original post

Not sure how hot it gets up in Cincy but the 3rd radiator may be an option. I am rolling the dice right now in Vegas (it gets up there temp-wise) but I will be moving back east in 1-2 years so I am just careful monitoring it since I have no desire to install the 3rd rad kit.

POST 4Original post

On my old 99 C2, I had the same "problem". It is "normal" but shouldn't be happening. Cleaning out the front damn won't do it. That's why Porsche re-designed the front damn in 2001, to the wider scoop style, to "suck" more air into the rads - You live, you learn.

POST 5Original post

I live in a very hot place (right now it's currently 103 degrees), my car runs as you described and each Pcar I've owned has done the same thing. I don't think it's all that big a concern that you are running at around 190. As long as your two radiator fans are working, you should be fine. Once mine kick on, she goes back down. No worries. I don't think it's all that necessary to run a 3rd radiator, but that's just me. Just monitor it carefully. (I've seen a temp gauge go up to 215 on the track on a nice 107 degree day at Thill in Trygve's car...no worries, it went back down.) I'm not sure at which temperature the rear fan kicks in, but it rarely does so.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses...but why would it start getting hotter than it used to??? My old 968 did this and it turned out to be th $10 thermostat not opening all the way. Any ideas????

POST 7Original post

My '99 used to do the same thing but even hotter, especially at the track. I added the third radiator and it helped but still went up by the zero. It prevented approaching the red area though. I never heard my engine compartment fan come on. I still think there was something wrong with it but I never had it looked at.

POST 8Original post

The only time my 99 did something like this the right front radiator fan was never going into high speed, it was running but only on low speed. 100F+ in AR in a construction zone with the A/C on.
