Suggestion
It lowers the car as low as you want it and you can adjust the dampening on the shocks to give the handling and comfort characteristics that you want.

Suggestion
my 10" rears before....my ride quality is BETTER than my 18's (no clue why), so that argument is dead, and my tire sizes are 235/35/19 and 295/30/19...I dont run 25 series tires, I can use the normal Porsche approved sizes, and I love the way it looks....No rubbing, no problems at all.

Suggestion
You will end up running very little sidewall with a 25 series tire, meaning the possbility of blowing a tire on bending a wheel on a pothole is greatly increased.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all!
thinking about upgrading the wheels and tires on my 99 c2 tiptronic to 19" from 17"
any thoughts on the best tires (i use it as a daily driver- no tracking)?
also, have been looking at wheels on ebay and i like the stock 19inch type wheels of the 997
(
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...6494767QQrdZ1)
.
I also like the alt miro 19 inch rims that seem to be well priced on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...66380800QQrdZ1
In either case i would need recs on all season tires for daily commuting and the exact size/offsets.
thank you!
The second one looks very aftermarket...
I've seen 997 19" Carrera wheels on 996 and the stock ride height seems too high. You'll probly have to lower it. For tires, Michelin Pilot Sport is the best.
The first ones are 997 copies and WAY overpriced for copies. If you are just going for bling then the second ones are much more appropiate and better priced.
thanks for the advice
i am not necessarily looking for bling
i am just not a huge fan of the 17inch turbo twists i have right now
and if i am going to upgrade- might as well go with 19's
the alt miro seem like a well-priced rim.....
i currently have the michelin sports and love them
in general, what size tires am i looking at to fit the 996 without rubbing
i have seen 285 vs. 275......
and what would be the offsets needed?
any other thoughts on rims out there that may look good
i do not like the black rim look
Have you ridden in a car like yours with 19" wheels? It changes the ride considerably - not for the better. The newer cars that come with 18" and 19" wheels have substantially changed shock valving that is designed to work with a lower tire sidewall. If your car is a daily driver and the roads you use are anything less than perfect you should seriously consider 18" wheels. You will enjoy your drives much more.
In general yes....but I have just put 19's on my car and the ride is BETTER than the 18's...not just my opinion, but my wifes as well....Now I do have PSS9's and maybe they are better with 19's than with 18's, but the ride now is VERY good....
PSS9's are the Bilstein PSS9 Coilover adjustable suspension. It lowers the car as low as you want it and you can adjust the dampening on the shocks to give the handling and comfort characteristics that you want. Agan, my car is lowered, with 19's and its smoother and the stock suspension and 18's and I commute in my car 100 miles roundtrip.
To me 18s seem like they "fit" the wheel wells and 19s look like cheaply modified by trying to shoehorn too large of a wheel a la ricer kids. I am planning on upgrading to 18" 02 5spoke wheels.
thanks for the input everyone.
i really appreciate the information
i really like my car- i wish it were 6 speed but at least my wife can drive it
i am at a juncture where i have been trying to decide on keeping my 99 c2 or getting somthing else
i would like something a little more exsclusive
and i figured- all the money i would put into upgrading my 99 c2 could be put into buying somehting else
so i test drove a maserati yesterday thinking i would love it (coupe gt 6 speed)
and to be honest- i prefer my porsche
so now the upgrade but has bitten......in terms of upgrading my porsche
so has anyone done the pss9's- how much does this cost?
i am starting to re-think the 18 inch versus 19 inch issue.
Personally, I would not go to 19"s because you aren't going to get a performance benefit and the ride will suffer. Due to their short wheelbase and short tire height, our cars already look like they have a lot of wheel. You will end up running very little sidewall with a 25 series tire, meaning the possbility of blowing a tire on bending a wheel on a pothole is greatly increased. If yo stil want to do this, you can pick up a set of 997 Carrera S wheels (19x8, 19x11) on E-bay for about $1100 a set. They have the right offsets to fit a 996.
Not true.....I have 19's and I do have a BIG performance benefit...11" rears vs. my 10" rears before....my ride quality is BETTER than my 18's (no clue why), so that argument is dead, and my tire sizes are 235/35/19 and 295/30/19...I dont run 25 series tires, I can use the normal Porsche approved sizes, and I love the way it looks....No rubbing, no problems at all. For modified suspensions, 19's are just as good if not better on the street than 18's...
Well decide what you want.....I wanted different so I chose my options carefully and after lots of research. PSS9's are ONE option to lower the car, but you can adjust the ride as well,. and it can be adjusted to handle BETTER than stock in terms of cornering ability AND comfort at the same time. Porsche makes the ROW M030 suspension and X74 suspension, both can lower the car by varying degrees and affect the ride as well. These are not adjustable and BOTH will be more harsh than the stock suspension, but both will increase your cornering ability. They will lower the car a set amount and thats all the PSS9's will lower the car as much or as little as you want. Here is a pic of my 99 C4 Cab...lowered with PSS9's and 997 black 19" rims, 02+ facelift, Turbo front bumper, GT3 mk II sideskirts, Turbo rear bumper, a bunch of interior mods as well...I LOVE THIS CAR!!!! Like I said, the ride quality is better than with 18's...I just did a 2 hour road trip in the car, smooth as butter....I also commute in this car 100 miles a day....All the "anti-19 inch" banter is usually from ill fitting wheel and tire combos....You really need to make sure they fit properly. As you can see, they fit well, no rubbing or scraping, the tires have plenty of sidewall...
