Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run 3rd autocross' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run ...now i know the rest of the story' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. This time I decreased pressure after each run...now I know the rest of the story.

Suggestion
A stiffer bar in the back and a 235 up front will help, but running a better tire is your best bet.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I ran my 3rd autocross with my 996. I totaly understand the understeer issuie. With that said, I at times find myself sliding all over the place. I have even played with tire pressure and have had minimal results. I am starting to think that it may have to do with my tires. I just bought a set of Carrera 5 spokes that came with new Conti Contact Sport IIs. The tires still had the stickers on them so I new they were not used; however, they looked older and even had some overspray on them, my guess is from sitting around a garage.
1- Are Contis really that crappy? Do you think a tire switch can make a difference for autocrossing (not going to R compound though)?
2- I thought that lowering the pressure in the front would help reduce understeer. Am I wrong? The handeling may even have gotten worse. Could I have simply let out to much air?
There are certainly tires out there that will get you better traction, such as the Michelins and Pirelli's. Many will tell you that the Conti's are not an ultra performance tire but they wear well, ride nice and are quiet.
If your's where sitting around for a while, the rubber might be getting aged and hard. This will wear off over time and they will improve, but they will never be as good as new.
Lower pressure, to a point, up front should help with traction. You could also reduce traction in the rear by raising pressures some. It seems a little illogical to reduce traction to improve handling but if it makes the car better balanced it can actually result in better times.
Easiest real quick fix is to put on a stiffer rear sway bar. The rear's are really easy to replace.
Wow, everything I did was the exact opposite of what I should have done...no wonder why the car was a handfull at the end of the day.
Last autocross I did not mess with pressure to the last run and felt the car was great. This time I decreased pressure after each run...now I know the rest of the story. Wish I could go back, now I'll have to wait until next month. Thanks guys!
Very welcome
I don't do autoX but I do run ALOT of track events and it took me 6-8 events to get the perfect tire pressure for my car dialed in. It's a learning process and one that can be very satisfying when you get it spot on!
I dont autoX, but I have a question, would switching to narrower tires in the rear (less grip) help allow the rear to come out? would this be considered adding oversteer?
Sorry if this is a stupid question
The Conti's really have never been known to be great tires on a track. A stiffer bar in the back and a 235 up front will help, but running a better tire is your best bet. Knowing not to let them get overinflated from the heat is definitely half the battle.
Not at all a stupid question!
you would have less understeer (push) if you went down in rear tire size. What do you have right now and what do you want to move to?
I went the other way. I had 265/35 and went to 285/30 and introduced just a tad of understeer but not enough to really change in a significant way. I will probably move to 235/295 on my next set of shoes when I move from SO2's to MPSC's.
