Turning point was not that play, it was the Reggie Bush lateral into the turf that kept us from going down 14-0.

Suggestion
I'm not saying they could not have some back, but it did change the game as Texas got a FG from the posession.

That might've put the 'Horns in a 14-0 hole which would've surely tested their mettle.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

From one Alumnus to another (or any fan of the Horns)......TEXAS LONGHORNS NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!!!!!
sorry for the OT post here guys but I don't spend anytime on the OT forum and just wanted to share my joy with my fellow 996'ers.
Great game and it is too bad about that horrible call on the lateral. I was very impressed with Coach Pete Carrol's comments after the game.
I think the speed of the D-Line and Linebackers in the NFL will keep Vincent Young at bay. He does not have the athleticism of Michael Vick. Not to take away from what he did last night against USC, but I think it was obvious what the weak link was in the USC defense.
One of the most enjoyable games I have ever watched.
Considering we had to wake up at 5AM here for the game I was happy it was a game worth watching! I am always happy to see a Big 12 team and can't wait till the OU Texas game next year. However let me see Oregon was beat by OU and USC by Texas, go big XXII.
Cheers from Iraq
Derek
The blown call on the lateral??? And you think that had that been overturned that we wouldn't have punched it in with 1st down from the 4? If anything it cost us since we had to rush the PAT knowing that it was about to get reviewed and pushed it wide when our kicker is solid.
Turning point was not that play, it was the Reggie Bush lateral into the turf that kept us from going down 14-0. That my friends was the turning point.
Anyway, one of the best Title games in a long time (and that isn't the Longhorn in me talking).
Texas Fight!
I bet he will be a better overall QB than Vick will ever be... Someone explain to me how Vick made the pro bowl this year... Not on this years play that's for sure...
It was a fun game to watch...
Have to agree with you wross on that one. If Vick (I mean Vince) leaves we will just be another competitive 10-1 team.
PLEASE STAY FOR ONE MORE YEAR VINCE!!!!!!!
Looks like we have the same win streak going as the Trojans though.....1 straight BCS National Title
Congrats to any Texas fans - I live in Pasadena and the city was crawling with Texas fans yesterday. I was really impressed with the fan support. I was cheering for USC, but I have to say VINCE YOUNG IS THE MAN and Texas deserved to win. They earned it, regardless of any controversial calls. Congrats.
Same here! As a Longhorns alum, I couldn't be more proud of the team's effort last night -- even if they had come up just short. Winning it all truly makes this a storybook ending for a great program. Missed call or not, let's be honest. USC didn't lose the game because of the non-call on Young's lateral. They lost because they had NO answer for Young. It's as simple as that. For argument's sake, let's say the play was overturned on review and UT ended up scoring a TD, FG, or not at all, would the Trojans have somehow miraculously found a way to stop Young in the 4th? The result of that play -- in the first half, mind you -- had no effect on USC's ability (or lack thereof) to counter Young in the 4th. He single-handedly beat the Trojans' D down the stretch. To blame the loss on that would be a cop-out, especially for a two-time defending national champion.
I agree with Dell, the real critical turning point was Bush's errant lateral. That might've put the 'Horns in a 14-0 hole which would've surely tested their mettle. Whether they might've overcome that deficit, we'll never know now.
It was a fantastic game, regardless.

Missed the call on Young's lateral? The Horns would have scored anyway
and
made the PAT!
Bush's lateral was a HUGE mistake. He was hyped and just trying to do too much.
How about Texas stopping USC on 4th and 2? That IMO gave the Horns new life. Plus, USC called a T.O. when Texas was going for the 2 pt conversion. They'd give anything to have that T.O. back on that last drive attempt.
That was truly a spectacular game!
Vince running that ball in on 4th and 5 was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
Awesome game!
Maybe the Texans should reconsider their first round choice
. That lateral by Bush was one of the most bone headed low percentage plays ever.
I think the Texans should still take Bush, best player available that can come in and make an impact from day one. Vince wants a Heismann, he'll stay another year to achieve it then go into the draft, although he may get converted to another position in the NFL.
Congratulations to the Longhorns, maybe the first time in my life I ever said it since I was a tackling dummy for the Selmon Brothers at Oklahoma back in the 70s.
The Big 10 officials made bonehead calls each way so anyone suggesting that is what gave Texas the victory is a sore loser. Seems to me that the refs blew the interception call that led to USC getting a field goal in the second quarter.
I believe we all saw true greatness and leadership on both sides last night and it will probably be quite some time until we see a game of that magnitude being played at that high of a level.
I hope to hell that Vince Young goes pro so the Sooners can get back to kicking their rear ends again next year. I just don't know what Vince Young would have left to prove at Texas, he has given them something they haven't seen since 70 and as a quarterback he should really think about whether a Hesiman is useful to him at the next level. If he comes out this year he would definitely be a top three and maybe a number 1 pick. Then if he wants a Hesiman I think OJ's is still for sale somewhere.
Congrats to Texas for their win as they played a wonderful game. I'm an Trojan Alumni and have to say that Vince Young played a great game. USC mad two cruical errors in the 1st half. They should have kicked a FG when they tried a 4thdown conversion to go up by 10. Bush latteral also could have lead to another score that might have broken Texas back. However I do feel that the game was somewhat tainted by the officals. The review play in the 4th qtr where there was a called incomplete catch and fumble was completely blown. This may have given USC the ball deep in Texas teritory and could have broken Texas momentum. I'm not saying they could not have some back, but it did change the game as Texas got a FG from the posession. I just feel also that officating somewhat helped Texas like the review of a tackle and stripped ball that help stop the clock late in the game. IMO if your gonna have instant replay get it right and don't change the outcome by getting it wrong.
No doubt that the IR program needs some work. It's silly that Texas has to "hurry up" and kick the PAT, and shank it of course, before the refs can figure out if they want to review the lateral or not.
I wouldn't put it all on the refs, though. USC could have requested a review on the lateral. USC also burned a critical timeout "prepping" for the Horns 2 pt conversion. Ouch.
Several things stick out in my mind. Bush had 87 yards. Killebrew roughed up Leinhart. Vince's knee was down on the lateral. Vince drove the Horns twice down the field with 6:47 to go and USC couldn't stop 'em. LenDale White was a Freight Train.
Exciting game!
Not to mention the Texas 'interception' in the endzone that the refs didn't catch but even Keith Jackson did. That let to 3 points for USC that wouldn't have happened if that call was made. The missed call on the TX knee down would have had TX 1st and goal at the 4. So still TX game.
And it's damn hard for me to give props to TX coming from OK.
You Sooners crack me up. Have quite the love-hate relationship with y'all. My undergrad was a fun one......my girlfriend went to OU! Let's just say it was a tough relationship during football season. I have to admit though, I sure did love visiting the OU campus (and the Zeta house
