Suggestion

Good idea to take photos before too so that if you are queried about it at sale you can show evidence that supports that fact that a paint repair has taken place that is not due to major damage.

Suggestion

I believe the orange peeling is from what ever process they use when drying or baking the car after the color has been applied?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Right after I picked up my first porsche (99 C4 coupe) the tire shop damaged my door and it will need to be repainted. Any adivce on how I should go about it? (tips on types of paint to stay away from, ect.) Also any body shops members reccomend in southern california?

POST 3Original post

I second Avio - he's more expensive than others, but your tire shop should be paying for it and there's nobody better in Los Angeles for high end cars. Even if you were paying for it, I would still recommend you take it there.

POST 4Original post

I too recommend avio, he redid my father's 993tt and my 996. Great guy.

POST 5Original post

If he has to remove the door, ask him to touch up the bolts, or remove them in a way that doesn't remove the paint on the bolts. With such an insignificant paint repair I personally don't see the need to clutter a sale with the knowledge of it. While you could happily and truthfully explain the removal of the door to a potential seller, 10 years down the road that information may get lost - and some poor guy trying to sell it has to say "Huh? What do you mean the door was removed" and the person buying doesn't know if the car has been in a serious accident. Good idea to take photos before too so that if you are queried about it at sale you can show evidence that supports that fact that a paint repair has taken place that is not due to major damage. POST 6Original post

Another Avio Coachcraft positive recommendation. They did my front and rear bumpers to touch up some scratches/chips and it was an A++ job all the way.

POST 7Original post

Paintless Dent Repair, if possible. Painting the pcar hurts the value as we all know.

POST 8Original post

The only draw back to a repaint is that I don't know of anyone capable of duplicating the factory orange peel. If you look at any 996 in the proper light, (overcast or artificial light) you will see the factory orange peel. My 2002 C2 had its front airdam/bumper repainted due to extensive rock chipping. Although it looks very good, if you look hard enough, you will see there is no orange peel. Kind of being **** I know, but maybe worth knowing about. Tom L 2002 C2

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was my understanding that orange peel is the result of a low quality paint job (no color sanding done after the paint goes on, and before the clear coating begins) I have been known to be wrong before and being as I know nothing about painting I would bet I am.

POST 10Original post

I believe the orange peeling is from what ever process they use when drying or baking the car after the color has been applied? I have seen many european cars that had this type of paint from the factory. Some american cars also. Probably more easy to see in a non metalic color. Any paint experts out there who can clue us in?
