Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I decided to buy a remanufactured WP from AutoZone and I am using Prestone Extended Life 50/50.

Time-wise, if you have the right tools and all goes well this is probably a 3-4 hour DIY job.

After reading some of the recent water pump posts I decided to replace my WP on my '99 C4 90K miles as preventative maintenance.

You should not need any sealant, if properly seated and tightened the gasket will seal.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After reading some of the recent water pump posts I decided to replace my WP on my '99 C4 90K miles as preventative maintenance. There were no issues with the WP. 1st off I wish I had not. The WP I pulled was the orginal and was turning smoothly and showed no wear. I decided to buy a remanufactured WP from AutoZone and I am using Prestone Extended Life 50/50. The WP was a Porsche OEM part and has the Porsche part number on it. Prestone claims the coolant is compataible with everything.
The WP replacement is not all that hard, watch the 8 minute movie (that guy is a Porsche DIY superstar, hats off to you sir) but there is one little dirty secret that I have not seen mentioned. The #3 bolt (starting at top and going clockwise) is a biiiich to get to.
DOES ANYONE HAVE A SUGGESTION AS TO WHAT TOOL I SHOULD USE TO TIGHTEN THAT BOLT??????
I decided not to use any goo (gasket sealant) and after I put everything back together it leaked like a sieve. Tomorrow I start the whole thing over and will use some goo.
Time-wise, if you have the right tools and all goes well this is probably a 3-4 hour DIY job. I spent 8 hrs. getting it wrong but that includeded a trip to McDonalds and to Autozone to find a tool for #3 bolt and lots of time on my creeper looking up and listening to the XM GD 24/7 channel.
Thanks,
You should not need any sealant, if properly seated and tightened the gasket will seal. It is a difficult job unless you take out the engine carrier for better access. I did mine when the engine was out of the car and the carrier was off. Very easy access to all the bolts then. To remove the carrier you have to temporarily support the engine from underneath.
I used sealent. Being I didnt have a torque wrech that woudl go as low as needed and I was pulling down "by feel and experiance", Mine doesnt leak, its been 300 miles.... See my post and the video in it.
