Maybe he could get a LSx engine from another kit to replace the M96?

That is awesome......makes the stupid bickering just stupid...the use of the grit for scale is great.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With people bickering over mk1 vs. mk2, engine swaps, oils, etc... It's refreshing to see someone that still loves the older 996 chassis without probably having owned the real deal and just appreciating the car for what it is. I came across a page where the love of his hobby shows, on a 996 model nonetheless. Some could say he's OCD but regardless, his attention to detail is worth noting. http://z12.invisionfree.com/ScaleMod...a/ar/t8631.htm However even if it's suppose to be a GT3, it seems to have the m96 motor. Also no gt3 control arms.

POST 3Original post

Maybe he could get a LSx engine from another kit to replace the M96? Amazing detail except for the cigarette ruining the shots.

POST 5Original post

Wow, that guy has a lot of time on his hands, but the end result and attention to detail were phenomenal.

POST 6Original post

holy crap! I couldn't imagine working with pieces that small.

POST 7Original post

That dude is deeply and fundamentally obsessive.

POST 8Original post

Total respect for that kind of attention to detail.

POST 9Original post

That really is awesome. FWIW - I don't think we have too much bickering around here. There's an occasional disagreement, but overall I think it's a great community and quite civil.

ROFL... Now that gave me a good laugh. Someone should suggest it to him as a way to avoid potential IMS issues. Hahahahaha Yes yes I know... Gt3, no need Dude has a serious eye for detail and some impressive skils. That's a hardcore modeler.

POST 11Original post

Nice job. Wonder why Tamiya put the mufflers sideways. Serious modeler, tho.

POST 12Original post

labor of love - I worked with a modeler for a few years and they are just a strange breed - the stuff they make, the attention to detail and the time they spend (surprisingly very little) guy would come in and show me stuff...oh I made this and that last night --- WTH - that stuff looks like it too months to make... they just have the eye for knowing how far to go, and how to not go too far

POST 13Original post

This was pretty cool and much better that the models my kids put together for sure. I thought he was 'normal' until the exhaust clamps pics. However, this is my favorite modeler of all time:

POST 15Original post

WOW, incredible. I did something similar (nowhere near his detail) on my 03 Tech art Turbo. It was a yellow kit off Ebay. Got the Midnight Blue paint and took it apart etc. He is an A1 attention to detail person.

POST 16Original post

Tim, midnight blue turbo is beautiful. Model is a nice touch. Helps me answer the question posed in another post, "what would your next car be?".

POST 17Original post

+1 That truly is amazing Tim, those pictures are awesome !!

POST 18Original post

There is no doubt that the 996MK1 GT3 is the best looking GT3 and a contemporary classic. The guy made a mistake putting in the M96 engine instead of the GT1 block with a GT3 badge.

I don't think the guy knew any better and this is what came with the model kit. I'm somewhat surprised that a model company like Tamiya would overlook or mislabel their model. Same for the control arms. The GT3 control arms would've had removeable shims on them. His looks like a 1 piece solid. If the modeler was a Porsche fanatic, he would've at least engraved some lines and painted the shims a different color, but like I said, he's probably not a hardcore Porsche guy so you can't really blame him.

Looks like a job for Buzz Lightyear.
