Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

TUV (german AAA) rankings for 2013 are out, the results should not surprise you. unless you are jake from flat 6. http://www.anusedcar.com/index.php/t...2013-10-11/311

POST 3Original post

In the 2013 report for 10 yr old cars my 2003 996 is rated #1 for reliability. How cool is that? Less mileage than other cars however. Why am I skeptical?

Can't blame Jake as I doubt any of us call him when our cars are running just fine. So of course he is going to have a slightly different perspective than the public in general.

Failing to see how, you openly insulting him has fixed it?

POST 8Original post

Man, you Canucks do stick together... And actually the answer to your question is 'yes.' When some newby throws out something that rude they should be called on it immediately.

POST 9Original post

What really is happening here is that Krazyk is converting the 996 population into DIY'ers. Now, I've got to get back in the garage. Carry on.

So how about when a old dbag insults several people...can they be called on it immediately or have they earned a free pass to post crap? Just so i know for future reference when a stinky miserable dbag posts something

POST 11Original post

why'd this turn into something about canucks? Anyway - ignoring the slight on Jake Flat6, can we get back to the topic at hand - which is the German reliability report on the 996? it is pretty phenomenal that the reliability is so high over there. So I remember when I lived in Germany for a number of years, DEKRA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dekra ) also rated the 996 as the most reliable new car when it came out, and when it became a used car, it was also ranked as the most reliable used car. But these are for GERMAN 996's only. In the US I don't know of any agency that tracks used car reliability. The only thing I can think of aside from the hysteria created on online forums - is that in Germany, the cars are different. They have different emissions systems, and their cars use VERY different fuel from the US. Their driving styles are also different from many US drivers. (contrary to popular fables they don't flog them on the autobahn all day long)

POST 12Original post

I attributed to the owner base who are very good preventative maintenance and the type of owners that buy these cars generally care about them, obsess over them, are **** about them, treat them like a family member, etc. Cheaper cars don't get the same kind of attention because a.) they're cheap and easily replaceable b.) different kind of owners generally buy them and often neglect them for various reasons. Afterall, how many Toyota Corolla owners are willing to plunk down a couple grand for preventative item when there's nothing wrong with their cars? Most wait for something to break and then deal with it then.

Well I have seen Jake post on the Pelican forum over the last few weeks that starting your 996 is akin to playing Russian roulette. So yes they have developed some good retrofit additions but he also at the forefront of the "sky is falling crowd" wrt respect to 996 reliability. Therefore when an independent statistic comes out stating these particular cars are the most reliable vehicles (of all vehicles) ya get called out!!

POST 16Original post

A slightly different perspective - those numbers show the 996 to be the lowest reliability 911 model at 11% faulty (10-11 year old cars) veresus the 4-9% range for other year ranges. Cheers Ben

POST 17Original post

[QUOTE=Ben_C;10227342]A slightly different perspective - those numbers show the 996 to be the lowest reliability 911 model at 11% faulty (10-11 year old cars) veresus the 4-9% range for other year ranges. makes sense. in general the older the car the lower the reliability. of course age is not the only factor to consider (make, model, MY, etc) but good rule of thumb.
