My advice, get a clear bra or a good old Porsche Bra like I did, use Meguires Gold Class Paste Car Wax, inexpensive, extremely easy on and off with MICRO FIBER polishing towels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a lot of back and forth decided on this 2003 mostly because it's condition and low miles. I plan on driving mine so it will be hard to keep in this condition . So for posterity I took this set of pics to remember it on my first week of ownership. http://gallery.me.com/guillermoceniceros#100830 Cheers Guille

POST 2Original post

POST 3Original post

Welcome Cheeky. Car looks great, now start putting some miles on it!

POST 5Original post

Beautiful. I hope you are driving it as I type.

POST 6Original post

Absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy your new P-car and welcome aboard Rennlist.

POST 7Original post

Remember it as it is--and don't screw it up with a bunch of silly mods. It's beautiful as it is.

POST 8Original post

Wow Cheeky! When they are new (or practically new) there is nothing like a shiny, black 911! Congrats! I hope that you enjoy the labor of love trying to keep it looking so clean. I love the white gauges, too!

POST 9Original post

My advice, get a clear bra or a good old Porsche Bra like I did, use Meguires Gold Class Paste Car Wax, inexpensive, extremely easy on and off with MICRO FIBER polishing towels. Wax it every other time you wash it and as it builds up and deepens the black it will be so easy to do in 45 minutes start to finish. I am psycho with my 996, its a Sunday routine, I have coffee and go out to my carport and put a coat on it, wait a couple of hours and take it off. Your beautiful Black 996 will stay looking perfect if you don't let it get dirty or clean it as soon as it does. Awesome car enjoy every second you drive it man! My 1999 that was new in February 1998.

POST 10Original post

Welcome to Rennlist...great pics, under 8k miles. Black on black with the white guages looks fantastic.Nice pics and plenty of them.

POST 12Original post

Cheekster.....glad you are here....fantastic looking car!

POST 13Original post

Ivan, I was thinking the same thing! Even clean inside of the wheels....

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the warm welcome Driving it, u bet, already I put 400 miles on week 1, though this is definitely not the norm for me Indeed I will do my best to keep it clean, however I won't obsess over it, driving is the funnest part of the experience I think a wash every two weeks and a wax once a month should be enough No I won't be modding it, no way. It has a few OEM subtle touches, I'm sure you noticed and that is as far as it will go. Frankly the biggest surprise in ownership so far has been learning about the animosity towards the 996, WTH. My budget for this car could have gotten me into a 30-40k mile 997 or a nice 993, but I chose this 996. Some people I know could not believe that I didn't go air-cooled, or into the 997 with the $ I had to spend. One of my good friends even said that in his opinion this was not a real Porsche, WTF? You would not believe the vile thrown this way, wait, maybe you will My reaction is simple, I'm buying the P-car for me, right Pound sand, it is my car and I like it, I like the headlights and I like that it is almost brand new. Some people have apparently deep issues with the 996, frankly that is not my problem, it is theirs. You guys have a nice place to hang out here. Lots of great info and learning. Thanks for the cool place and see you on the road. BTW, any guys in South Orange County, CA? Do you guys go all the way to Newport Beach for service? Any other place recommended? Cheers Guille

Good attitude on some of the 'hate', many with that stance haven't driven a 996, or they are hung up on another year Porsche, older or newer that reinforces their reason for buying a Porsche. It's amazing how much snobbery there is within the Porsche community. As you said, let them pound sand!

POST 17Original post

Very nice car and welcome. I feel the same about my 996, lots of character. Lucas

POST 18Original post

From one Paneristi to another: Congrats my friend! Amazing gem you got in there! joel

POST 19Original post

Nice 996! Looked at a 997 and a 993 before purchasing this car as well. I knew this was the car for me. My wife only had to hear the factory sport exhaust to get her completely hooked. Welcome to the nuthouse.

POST 31Original post

great looking car!!! congrats. i am a larger guy, with a replaced right hip. i found the console in front of the shifter was rubbing on my right leg. it can be replaced with a GT3 delete kit (suncoast Porshce). when I did it, i also added a short shifter kit. now, it is much more comfortable and looks much more like my first P-car. '73 911S. I drive it daily, about 10-12k mi a year. and i take to 6 track days per year (photo take at Watkins Glen). It is a great car. best of luck. it was built to drive!!!! surfer161 PCA since '75
