Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is a continuation of my saw noise, I am pretty sure I located where the noise is coming from. Does anyone know what part I am pointing to in the picture and if so, is it easy to change out?

POST 8Original post

Thats the bracket that holds that other thing it is connected too. I doubt it is yoru problem.... Sorry I couldnt resist. it IS, Oh wait thats Tomorrow..... ST Patty's Day/ Stand by I am looking at PET I gave ti the ol collage try and I cant find it in PET

POST 9Original post

There's some sort of electric fan in there which acts as a blower. Not sure exactly what this does for the engine, but it must be somewhat important! I think I have a good used spare if you're interested. BTW, this is VERY easy to change out. It's just bolted in place and the hose just pulls on and off.

POST 10Original post

Is that the part making the noise? If you aren't sure you might be able to tell if it is by applying pressure on it when the whining starts. Doing so should change the sound if it is the faulty part.

POST 11Original post

Mine makes noise when the car is started too, but then goes away after the car is warm. Not sure if the noise indicates it's on it's way out...

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes It makes noise on start up. I can hear it from there and then when car is done warming it stops making the noise. I also can feel it vibrating the whole time the noise is occuring and then it stops once the noise is gone

POST 14Original post

Just change it out and sell the used one to Ed.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

well I don't know what it is, or else I would change it out.

POST 19Original post

The Air Pump is used to reduce pollutants contained in the exhaust gas during the warm-up phase and to achieve the emission limits of the roll test in the USA, USA vehicles have a secondary air system. For this reason, an electric air pump has been mounted on the left-hand side of the engine compartment (Carrera). This pump is activated by the DME control unit and blows the additional air through air ducts to the discharge valve. A pneumatic switching valve which is closed when the secondary air system is inactive thus preventing the flow of additional air is installed between the air pump and the discharge valve. Functioning If the engine is started in a temperature range between minus 10.5 C and plus 45 C, the secondary air system is activated for a period of time dependent on the start temperature (min. 50 seconds, max. 179 seconds). The secondary air system is only activated if the following engine-related operating conditions apply: - Engine load (TL) between 0.7 ms/rev, and 4.7 ms/rev. - Air mass (ML) not greater than 300 kg/h - Engine speed between 680 rpm and 2,800 rpm - Altitude adaptation factor greater than 0.76 corresponding to less than 2,400 meters above sea level."

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

damn...so should I just wait until it completely fails before I change it out?

POST 21Original post

Other than being a noisy pump it will not hurt anything. But, if you’re anything like me the noise would irritate the hell out of me. And, if it were me, I would start looking for a used one. They are not a high failure item. Save you a ton of cash! GL

POST 22Original post

+1 to that. The whining doesn't bother me that much since it doesn't last long, and isn't that loud in my case. I will listen for changes in the noise and decide on replacement then. No way in hell I'd replace w/ new at those prices. Parts Heaven in CA should have these used too. I use DC since it's East Coast.

POST 23Original post

On my audis i used to rip the secondary airpump out and throw it in the garbage....I have the same wierd noise....from the back on occasion...Im not worried...when i breaks Ill sell it to ed too.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've decided to just buy all of the used stock so I can just sell it to you guys when yours start going out. $1000?

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so def answer on what that part is?

POST 29Original post

See post #19 above. I don't think mine sounds like a saw but it's certainly noticeable. Leave it alone.

POST 30Original post

$1500 bucks. That's unreal! It's a little electric motor with a plastic body. Does it have a computerized output or something?? Very easy to change out BTW.
