Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Any experiences appreciated. I'm currently very annoyed with Porsche GB

POST 2Original post

I'm unaware of any official Porsche policy, but in the US at least I know of one case where they were very liberal. A local dealer replaced the RMS on a 1999 996 that was over a year beyond the warranty period. The owner of the car was the original owner, I'm not sure if that matters, and the car had over 40k miles on the odometer. That was a great gesture on the part of Porsche IMO.

POST 3Original post

My '99 was almost a year out of warranty when they replaced my RMS for free (and then again the following year for free with supposedly redesigned seals). I was the original owner & probably had about 20-25k miles on it at the time.

POST 4Original post

I would imagine that these out of warranty repairs are being done by the goodwill of dealers to the original owners of the car...I really don't think that Porsche differs from any other manufacturer in that it will only reimburse dealers for repairs done during the manufacturer warranty period...that said I am certainly not an authority, and I'm sure that several members of the RMS club will throw their [more educated] $.02 in here

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the insight I just got denied by Porsche GB as i was 3k miles outside their guidelines. (53k) and my car is too old - 97. bearing in mind I had PPI by an OPC 6k miles ago. In my eyes a defect is a defect, especially when the OPC tech told me its a common problem and Porsche GB told me it happens often too[/QUOTE]

POST 6Original post

I suppose this RMS is a conundrum, a circuitous argument, a catch 22 situation, where it can be the car owner that ends up with the short stick (talk about killing several sayings in one sentence). It's a common thing, well known as a defect, so it should be repaired by Porsche regardless of whether it's under warranty or not. The flip side. It's a common thing, a well known defect, so it's a risk the buyer knowingly took or should have when the car was pusrchased so the buyer should pay for it. No absolutely right answer, I think.

POST 7Original post

Not exactly. I bought mine new when it first came out. Clearly, there was no way I could have known about this issue at the time.
