Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I purchased the Porsche SSK unit from a local guy who bought it and never had it installed as he ordered a 997S. I pickup the piece tomorrow. The unit is new and has never been installed but he is unsure if it includes directions. Anyone have any tips or advice for installing the Porsche SSK? TIA, Adam

POST 3Original post

Adam, I just got my SSK today and am going to install it on Saturday morning. Mine is a B&M and it came with instructions. Have never done this before so I have done a little searching for info. Check out the site below. The last page (pg 5) has a detailed diagram on how to remove the center console. If the first link one does not take you directly to the PDF file, try the second link and then click on the "996TT Swift Shift installation instructions." This should at least get you started. http://www.evoms.com/PDF%20Files/po...6-GT3-996TT.pdf http://www.evoms.com/p996tt%20swiftshift.htm Hope this helps. BTW, if your PM from 996shane gives you additional info, could you share it with me? Thanks.

POST 4Original post

the best advice is buy the B&M, save 500$. it is literally the exact same thing of course some people (myself included) will go OEM no matter what

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

gota911: Thanks for your link. Much appreciated. I will forward whatever info Shane forwards me for your reference. Can you PM me your email address? Moogle: I really wanted OEM in the event there was ever a warranty claim. Just piece of mind. Thanks, Adam

POST 7Original post

I'm pretty sure there are detailed instructions on renntech.org.

POST 8Original post

There are two porsche units out there, one is the tequipment retrofit (shifter, metal bushings, black, instr, just like the BM), the other is a source of assembly line installs that never made it to cars( they come mounted in the plastic housing with porsche plastic bushings in a very fancy plastic bag, zero istr). Either way, you made the smart decision. I swapped my BM (which was great, better feel than the pssk)for the porsche ssk. I got it for 300 from braman porsche. It was one of the line-to-be intalled ones, not sure how braman came across them, but in my mind a good deal. I don't think anybody on this forum would tell you that they wouldn't mind having the oem unit for less than 100$ differential if they are being truly honest. Granted, I wouldn't pay 700$ for it, that's a waste, but 300 vs 200 + peace of mind, you do the math.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

C4S Surgeon: Yes, the one I got is in a black plastic housing. I assume I should not take it out of the plastic housing and simply skip those steps on the install. That should save some time. I'll check renntech.org for some help too. Adam

POST 10Original post

alevine: The instructions that came with my B&M shifter are black & white copies of rather poor quality, especially the pics. Go to www.bmracing.com and then to manual shifters. Select the shifter for Porsche 996 & 986 model # 45135. At the bottom of the page are instructions on Adobe format. I have color printer and these are MUCH better than b&w copies. As C4S said, you can skip the part about removing the shaft from the housing. All other steps should be OK. Hope this helps.

POST 11Original post

C4S Surgeon - I'm a little confused; you stated "I swapped my BM (which was great, better feel than the pssk)for the porsche ssk." Did you do this for warranty / compliance reasons? Since Porsche obviously "copied" B&M's ssk for their Tequipment version, if it works and feels better, why would one switch?

POST 12Original post

I as just worried about the warranty deal re the tranny. It's a nonsvc item and runs about 8k to replace. I would've just left the BM in, but I came across a great deal on a pssk, just lets me sleep easier. There was actually a thread some time ago about porsche having an internal memo re aftermarket shifters and warranty rejections either here or on 6speed. Alevine, yes, just skip all those steps, when you do attach the shift cables, take the new ends off the new shifter and simply snap you stock cables right on the new tower, no thread counting BS at all.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone. Looks pretty straight forward. I will hopefully get to install this weekend after the kids tee-ball, soccer, etc...... Regards, Adam

POST 15Original post

How are you saving $500? I just bought the Porsche SSK from Brandywine for $350...
