You could compare to F1 testing where they even use last years car to test electronics and new parts for the new cars, because the cars not necessarily have to be the same to get valuable test data from them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The first half is video of the new Turbo. Looks great, but the second half is the new Caymen (name = ugh!!) Look how flat it looks through the corners!!! Right click and save as The stills look AWESOME!!! God I hope I fit in the damn thing!!! Chad

POST 5Original post

that cayman looks like a fun little car! now if they'd just make it in a cab i bet they would really boost sales

POST 6Original post

I still don't understand the Porsche marketing scheme with the Cayman. It's priced above the Boxster S, but below a 997S. This puts the car the same price as the 997, seems like they are eating into their own sales... I'm confused.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nah...they ran the turbo first and then dressed the Cayman up like the turbo. Didn't work, the rear valance gave it away. Just body cladding. Chad

POST 8Original post

Drivers looked a bit amerturish... Think I'll stick with C4S.

POST 9Original post

Ok guys, let me understand this. Why would they test the car like this if they don't condone this type of driving and more importantly decline warranty work if your car broke while at a track?????? I remember a post here not long ago about someone in arbitration and this kind of **** sickens me from Porsche. Type 1 and 2 em' on the ring but god forbid we do on the street or track and our warranties are void. I don't get it, but a neat video, thanks Chad.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

SYMA - Are you serious? All car companies test out cars like that. It's called testing the limits of the equipment. GM has their own track in MI. BMW has one, Porsche has one, dear god man. They all have to test the limits of the equipment so John-Q-moron doesn't hurt himself or others. Those are professional drivers driving that car till it grenades. As in *poof*. The factory then takes the test data and learns what they can do to save money or change on final manufacturing of the product. Those car are laiden with testing computers in the back and passenger seats. They are called "test mules." ...and everybody loves'em because we get to see a glimpse of what is to come. C. EDIT: in fact, here is a link to a Ferrari 456 Test run where the test driver grenades the cooling system. Better yet, they pay people to do this!!! Ferrari 456 goes boom

POST 12Original post

wow... thanks for sharing... the cayman looks actually pretty nice

POST 13Original post

Chad, I know exactly what they are doing, I guess I worded it incorrectly if you don't understand my post. Maybe this stuff shouldn't be released, it sends the wrong message to many drivers. Re-read my original post and tell me where I lost you...(and don't say from the beginning).

POST 14Original post

Looks like they kept the 996 headlights in to confuse everyone. I also find it strange that they would test a turbo at the limits with such a small stock 911 spoiler ( even if it was a mule)!?

POST 15Original post

Doesn't look like a "small" spoiler to me... looks more like the whale tails from 993s

POST 16Original post

Maybe the aerodynamics of the 997 are significantly different than the 996 and such a large spoiler is not needed. It looks similar to the fixed spoiler that was used on the 993tt so maybe its just keeping with that theme. I noticed in a couple of the shots the spoiler looks like it has braces on the back (maybe for adjustment for determine the optimum aero efficiency). Maybe they were testing something else and the smaller spoiler was needed to test other aero changes? Maybe they did it to try and disguise the car. The possibilities are endless. You could compare to F1 testing where they even use last years car to test electronics and new parts for the new cars, because the cars not necessarily have to be the same to get valuable test data from them. The turbo looks like the test mule that has been caught on film for a couple of years now. I noticed the film never shows the two cars in the same frame, therefore the film of the turbo it could have been shot a long time ago when they were still developing the aero package and/or really attempting to disguise the car.

POST 17Original post

I believe that may be intentional. Perhaps they want to see how the car behaves near the limit when driven 'a bit amateurish'. You know, by the people who need PSM to be "Please Save Me".

POST 19Original post

ITC, were'nt you at Limerock yesterday, damn your car is fast. I was in the blue group #137, you passed me a few times! Chris

POST 20Original post

Chris, Yes, I was at LRP on Thursday (couldn't stay for Friday due to work emergency). As I was telling people in the pits, you could put a chimp (look at me, case in point) behind the wheel of that car and it would be fast. Gotta love those Porsche engineers when they design Cup cars. It is stock, ~247hp 5 speed, so I can't drag anyone down the front stretch (not even Boxsters....well maybe a 914). But that's OK, I really only like the twisties anyways, as it makes getting up at 3AM and driving to the track worth it. Riad, I can't remember who told me that PSM is 'Please Save Me'; I just thought it was funny. I've been told it does what is says it does.
