I bought the $8 shifter adjustment tool and adjusted things before I removed the stock shifter.

I used the counting-threads method (following the B&M instructs), which was pretty easy.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I'm thinking of getting the BM shifter for my 99 CAB. Any downside? Anybody install one and then uninstall it because they thought it was too short or too hard to shift? Thanks
Steve,
I just installed a B&M short shifter this morning. It is absolutely GREAT! I have had my '04 C2 for 5 weeks now and this is really one of those that you simply HAVE to do. Some have described the action as a little "notchy", and I would tend to agree but it feels really solid. You know exactly when you have moved from gear "X" through neutral and into gear "Y" because of the solid fee, which was not there with the standard OEM shifter.
The B&M step-by-step instructions are very good, but the quality of the print is fair, and the pics are rather poor quality, like a copy of a copy of a copy. I went to B&M's web site (
www.bmracing.com
) and printed the instructions in color, which was MUCH better quality.
I had never done anything like this before with any of my previous cars, so I had some concerns about doing this. It worked out well. I did use some "tips" I read on this forum on how to avoid having to worry about getting the shifter cables connected back up properly. This took the guess work out of the process of reconnecting the cables. The whle thing takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
Do it, you'll be glad you did. Let me know if I can be of any help.
I did the porsche version (of the B&M) this morning. Pretty easy job. I bought the $8 shifter adjustment tool and adjusted things before I removed the stock shifter. I'm glad I did -- it was a ways out of adjustment.
I used the counting-threads method (following the B&M instructs), which was pretty easy. I then read the Porsche instructions and they say to pop the cables off @ the shifter rather than at the threads. Oh well.
Haven't driven it yet; dealing with screaming infant
Thanks gota911
I went to their web site and download the instructions. It looks staight forward to me. I've already had most of the console apart. I've got the shop manuals and am willing to tackle anything including a engine rebuild if necessary. I think I would like the shorter throw. One of the benifits of this forum is getting input from a lot of different perpectives. Thanks again for your input. LvDell's was short but also positive. Anyone out there who didn't like it?
