I selected the unpainted aero kit with the hopes that all the bad press regarding DPS and their delivery times was due to custom paint.

In my case it wasn't much of a bother since it was the middle of winter in central NY.

It might be best to make a clean break and return everything for a full refund.

In the future, post to the forum, ask about experiences and if you get NEGATIVE input ala Motor Meiser, LA Dismantlers, DPS, ets, run the **** away!

But the same BS run around you got, and lack of delivery for paid items is exactly what I complained about.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

In Late July I finally convinced the wife that I NEEDED an Aero kit on my 2001 C4.
I start bidding on a Full MK1 Aero kit (front bumper, skirts, rear deck) on EBay. Turns out DPS was the seller (good grief)
On Aug 1st we agree on price, and DPS charges my credit card. I selected the unpainted aero kit with the hopes that all the bad press regarding DPS and their delivery times was due to custom paint.
Guess what? IT DOESNT!!!!
My Saga
So my order goes in on Aug 1st - Dayton says that shipping might be a week or so because the parts are coming from 3 different places.
2 weeks after order a box shows up at my body shop - Yippee!!!!
- Excitement gone - it was only the side skirts
Call DPS - Dayton remindes me that the parts come from 3 different warehouses and will be in 3 deliveries
So in theory, 2 other boxes should be on their way!!
Week 4 - Still nothing
I call DPS to find out where my parts are. Dayton advises me -apparently my front bumper was returned by FedEx damaged during shipping, but he is sending out another ASAP.
I ask So the Rear deck is still on its way??
DPS Yes its on its way. I'll email you the tracking number
Email with tracking number never came
Yesterday (week 6) - call Dayton to ask where my parts are.
He finally gives me 1 tracking number and says they will be there tomorrow.
I say what do you mean they? I thought the rear deck lid was on its way.
Dayton No I put them in the same box to help you out and save time
Today almost week 7
Box shows at Body shop they open it and, surprise front bumper only NO REAR DECK LID
Called Dayton - he took my number is said hell call me back
Yeah sure better chance of me loosing 20 years, 30 lbs and becoming a model
7 weeks they have their $$ I still dont have all my parts
Sorry - Had to get that off my chest
I give up
'They' shouldn't be able to stay in business if they can't deliver product better than your story illustrates. Too bad...hope you can resolve it. I'd suggest you contact your credit card company before it becomes 14 weeks and still waiting.
I had a similar experience when I ordered my aero front and sides from them. In my case it wasn't much of a bother since it was the middle of winter in central NY. In the end it all showed up.
Dayton sent mine right away, but that was two years ago. I was really pleased with delivery then. I think he had all the parts in stock when I ordered them.
Sorry Dominick. I figured that you might be onto a loser here.
I'm still fighting Dayton for my refund. He sent me info yesterday on the transaction number (a week and many emails after I first requested it), but has not told me when he actually processed it. He told me that it was processed around Aug 22nd, but I have no proof to support that and he has a track record of his words and actions not matching up. You never know if you can believe a word he says.
In my case the refund still hasn't hit my card, I have no proof if/when he actually processed it and 2 weeks have passed. I'm at the point where I'm about to file a dispute if the credit has not hit my card by Monday.
It's a real pity as he has nice products and is a truly nice guy, but he is totally unreliable. He makes promises that he consistently and repeatedly fails to deliver upon. I was told 2 weeks for the first half of my partial aero kit and it took 8 weeks. I was told 2 weeks for the aero wing and it took 7 weeks. After 7 weeks the wing that arrived was not as described. Dayton promised repeatedly that I would not be able to tell the difference between his wing and an OEM wing. I figured that was okay. The wing that arrived was not adjustable and the paint job was poor quality and had many flaws.
To Dayton's credit he took the wing back and has promised to issue a full credit (after all, the wing was nothing like he promised), but it does amaze me that he stays in business when he does this to so many Rennlisters.
I thought highly of DPS at one point. When I bought my bumper and rockers... it took three months, but like other post it was during winter... same story with the promises. It eventually made it...... DPS is def down the tubes now!
Funny this thread should come up today. I just received a set of sideskirts from them yesterday, the shipping was actually very quick, took less than one week. The skirts, however, were advertised as "NEW" painted black but they turned up looking like ****! They are DEFINITELY going to need a repaint as they are all scuffed and scratched to hell...
Yeah, I know, I used to sing his praises also.
When I bought my partial aero kit from him it took a long time and he strung me along, but he did eventually deliver everything that he promised... it just took some time and a couple of extra deliveries to get the hardware.
At this point I've just had one broken promise too many.
lol, that's why I posted my neg experience with them regarding purchase of traffic-pro gps/antennae. Some of the rennlisters here gave me a hard time for posting my negative exp. But the same BS run around you got, and lack of delivery for paid items is exactly what I complained about.
Bottom line: These guys SUCK
It's sad, but the body of evidence is that there are a significant number around here that have suffered the cure of Eternal Broken Promises.
I'm not a big fan of jumping to condemn, but there have been too many reports like this over the last year.
Wow that sucks cause I feel I'm in the same wagon with my GT3 seats in metropol blue. At first he said he had a few sets on its way even before I had paid and then once I paid, it was a misunderstanding but still wouldn't take long. like 2 to 3 weeks max and that was early August or even late July. I had specifically told him that I needed the seats for my next event in early September and if he was sure they couldn't make it in time, I would just order them during the winter. No point for me to spend 3K on seats right now if I can't have them for my last events. He completely understood and assured me I would have them in time. Now sept. 5th and still no seats.
Amazing. Sorry to hear that.
I honestly don't believe that Dayton filed the refund on Aug. 22nd. There's not way it took from then until Sept 9th to process.
Having said that, I was glad to be able to call up my credit card company this morning and cancel the dispute.
Okay, okay. I was supposed to pick up the car today, but unfortunately the rubber stoppers did not transfer from one wing to another, so I'm awaiting replacements that will come in tomorrow.
...but, I did stop by to pick up my old decklid and as I had my camera with me (being the good father that I am I called in on the way back from the hospital and not on the way there), so I took a couple of photos of it standing in the yard. More photos later once I get the car cleaned up.
I opened up the inside of the decklid and it looks great insides - sticker placement is good
and they got all the little details just right. I love it!
Yup, it's the same guy. i think your order was the beginning of the list of troubled purchases posted here and it the list has only gotten longer since then.
Nah, we all know that DPS was broken long before NOBY, but NOBY was one of the first big meltdown failures of customer service that we saw here - prior to that it had just been smaller ones.
Since NOBY there have been a fair number of meltdowns that make you just want to look away.
the saga still conitues
Now Dayton is telling me that my rear deck lid was lost during delivery. an now he doesnt have any more in stock.
Calling credit card company as we speak
Im keeping the OEM side skirts and front bumper. I asked for a refund on the rear deck lid although he hasnt told me the price yet. Since my kit was a package, i dont know what they charge for the replica tail. Wayne i know you just bought one from him, so any info would be helpful. Shoot me a PM
That said, anyone selling a MK1 GT3 Taco wing or know a place with reasonable prices??
PM Sent.
As for alternate sources of wings. I would have gone with MAShaw if Yasuro hadn't sold me his wing.
Finding the OEM wings is getting harder and I see more and more people looking for them.
Newest Update - NONE!!
Here we are 45 days since DPS charged my card!!
Can't get Daytton to return my phone calls or multiple emails. Last I heard from him was on Sept 11th. He sent me an email that said
"The soonest they can have one to you is Wedensday. Wait or refund?
Cheers Dayton"
I responded "can you guarantee wednesday?" - He never responded.
I have called 4 times since last week, and another giuy always answers and takes a message. No one ever calls me back.
I opened a dispute with the CC company and even that doesnt phase him.
Does anyone know if MASHAW makes a replica 996 AERO deck wing???
SORRY TO ALL - Im not trying to whip a dead horse, but I feel better knowing that I'm detailing this event as a reference with the hopes that NO ONE ever uses this vendor again.
Dominick
Man, this process has been painful to me, so I can't imagine how painful it is to you! I am really sorry that you have ahd to go through this!
Glad to hear that the dispute has been filed. It will be interesting to see how the parts that you already have are handled. It might be best to make a clean break and return everything for a full refund. You know how I feel about my latest dealing with DPS. I'm amazed that they stay in business with customer service like this.
As for other wings - as far as I can tell the MAShaw wing appears to be closer to the OEM wing than the DPS one. I spoke with Mike Shaw and he said that the upper plane is adjustable to the upper position, so you end up with a 2 position wing rather than the fixed DPS wing - otherwise Mike said that his wing was a good copy of the OEM wing (well, he actually said "better", but I'll leave it at that until I actually see one)
Dominick,
This has been a horrible train wreck to watch, sorry man!
Give Mike Shaw a call, dont bother with email. I am VERY pleased with my wing and Mike was a pleasure to deal with. If you buy from Mike you will have it in a week I am sure.
Cool! So, did you dispute the entire amount? How did you handle the parts that you already have?
I assume that Dayton is still not returning your calls?
Hey, I don't have a problem with a vendor making money and giving me what I perceive to be a fair price so I wont ding the guy on that BUT one would expect that the vendor could actually deliver the promised parts and not lie and mislead the customers
Marc,
We are a small knit community. It would surprise me if we don't find out. We will PM each other pricing on everything if requested.
As a vendor, you should at the very least establish uniform pricing to a specific market. You can have different pricing to different markets but such a dramatic price difference within the same market makes me wonder if he knows what he is doing.
I agree with that, certainly.. but Wellard's wing did add prep, painting and delivery where Dominick's was just the quote on the wing. High for sure.... especially when you consider the paint job was substandard!
Time for some Dr. Phil tough love........
It absolutely amazes me that y'all continue to use this *** clown. There are SO MANY threads identical to this one where you are promised one thing by Dayton (great product and great prices) then bent over hard, lied to, delayed, etc, and yet y'all continue to hope all the past BS were anomalies. ERRRRRRRRR!!!! Wrong answer.
Perfect example, the bumper was NOT returned b/c of damage. One, that is rare. Two, if you believe it, then ask for the tracking number and call FedEx to make sure that is the tracking number for you (ie, is the delivery address yours and was the ship date as promised). I guarantee no such tracking exists and that story was made up to buy more time.
In the future, post to the forum, ask about experiences and if you get NEGATIVE input ala Motor Meiser, LA Dismantlers, DPS, ets, run the **** away! If you don't then you have yourself to blame.
Sounds to me like he takes and order, take your $$$, then finds the cheapest outsourcing in Asia he can find and when it arrives (which is obviously variable and unknown to ALL) then and only then can he ship.
That's the guy of crap that gets you dragged out behind the wood shed
I guess e comes off as a nice guy but in reality, he certainly is not. There was some interior items on ebay I was thinking about buying but than I saw the seller was DPS.... pass! Price was right but I'm sure I would not see the item anytime soon.
its almost over
The car is finally in the shop. Bought the GTM wing from Misha. Got confirmation and tracking number from him in 20 minutes. It was nice to deal with a profesional.
Dropped the car off yesterday so the body shop can start working on the other parts with the wing is in transit. Should be able to pick it up the first week in Oct!!
Cant wait to post pix. she won't be a factopry aero but it will be unique to me!!
