UPDATE: I re-installed the stock cats and the only exhaust mods left on the car are the Fabspeed Mufflers, and they sound amazing - only loud when WOT, otherwise pretty quiet which I like.

I would highly recommend doing it yourself to save on the extra $ for installation - otherwise I know a great guy at the local Midas here in Edina who could do it for about $150-$200 installed.

I followed all instructions obviously and the only part I can think of that I didn't do was replace the gaskets from factory - they looked pretty good though, but perhaps something is leaking there?

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally put my fabspeed exhaust in the car - sounds pretty nice, however at ceratain cruising speeds on the HW it is LOUD - any way for me to get that resonating sound less extreme or completely gone? I installed the sport cats and mufflers - Is it because of the sport cats that I think it sounds like a jet engine trying to take off? Any suggestions for dampening the resonation would be greatly appreciated - also, if go back to the stock cats will the exhaust by Fabspeed alone (just the mufflers) be more mild? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To put it simple, it sounds like I didnt invest all the money for the sport cats and exhaust, and I simply put the muffler bypasses on - sounds WAY too loud and nothing like what is in the videos by Fabspeed - any help please?!?!?

POST 3Original post

No mufflers = LOUD! Keep the sport cats and add some the mufflers of your choice based on sound. This will be louder than stock but not nearly as loud as the muffler bypass set up.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually do have the Fabspeed mufflers installed - as well as the cats - but it sounds AS IF I do not have any mufflers...so I am wondering why it sounds this way? I followed all instructions obviously and the only part I can think of that I didn't do was replace the gaskets from factory - they looked pretty good though, but perhaps something is leaking there?

POST 5Original post

Sorry, I read your second post and thought you had installed muffler bypass pipes.

POST 6Original post

I listened to the sound bytes on the muffler by-pass.. bought them, and they sounded awesome!! They sounded so awesome that I had to remove them because my ears were going to be falling off if I didn't. The sound bytes are not accurate, just go watch Nitro Funny cars run down the 1/4 mile - then compair to a video....major differance.. GL, but i bet we see a "FS fabspeed cat and muffler" post soon... you and I will be looking for the "less loud" option together Ed

POST 7Original post

Sounds like the sport cats are creating the extra noise in your case. Did you do the install yourself, you could put the stock cats back on and probably notice a difference. Good luck!

POST 8Original post

I'll trade you for a set of 3.6 PSE modded cans by Fister D...PM me

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, I did install myself - I will put the stock cats back on and see what type of difference it makes - I just don't want to lose out on any extra power And yes, you will probably see a "FS - Fabspeed Sport Cats" post in the near future! Thanks for the tips!

POST 10Original post

are the fab cats 200 cell or 100 cell, the stock is 400 cell and will reduce the noise to a nice "livable" level... lucky you didnt sell you stock cats yet

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ridge - yes, they are the 200 cell - had no idea that "cell" = noise level (probably doesnt) but it explains why they are twice the volume that I would prefer them to be - and it sucks because all I wanted was the muffs and the guy on the phone DEFINITELY sold me on the cats as well - and I had to wait 2 weeks for the cats because of shipping errors...not fun and lots of time & money wasted at this point. Anyways, thanks for all the help everyone, sounds like I need to take the cats off and ultimately go with just the mufflers, hoping it won't take away from the fun sporty sound and feel that the car now offers - just too much excess noise at this point! Very grateful I didn't ship the cats yet! Sorry for the confusion.

i had the same problem. changed to quieter mufflers and solved the problem. i think i replaced the fabspeed mufflers with fvd sport mufflers.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sounds like you kept the cats then and just replaced the mufflers? I think I am looking to switch back to the stock cats and keep the Fabspeed Mufflers for the louder sound, hopefully only when doing WOT.

POST 14Original post

interesting. I didn't realize the sport cats made such a sound difference..

POST 15Original post

If you have cats and fabspeeds, and think they are too loud, you should probably go back to the stock mufflers. I have fabspeeds and they are way quieter than the monty mufflers I was running. I did have a pair of supersprints that were slightly louder than stock. The Monty's fell apart on me, (multiple times), but I am looking for something with similar sound. The fabspeeds are way quieter, with or without cats.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm, appreciate your post and it makes me think I somehow screwed up the install. My mufflers, literally, sound like a 1980 Mazda that is missing the mufflers all together - it sounds like an out of control drag car that needs to be silenced...so as far as Fabspeed being too quiet, in my case I have to disagree as it is EXTREMELY loud. The one thing that I did not do during install was replace the stock gaskets, and I am wondering if this has anything to do with it or if air leaks out of it and is causing it to be so obnoxious...literally, if I took everything off it would sound the same way coming straight out of the headers! If I took it to a local, do you think they would they be able to test for leaks or troubleshoot the issue? Sounds nothing like the videos I have seen (those cars sound GREAT)...again, it sounds like an old beat up car that lost its mufflers miles back on the highway.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The more and more I read about cats the more and more I think I have to replace the sport cats with stock - I hate to go back but I tried driving again tonight and the AWEFUL drone sound around 2500-3000 RPM is absolutely brutal. Can I assume that if I replace the sport cats, go back to stock cats, and leave the Fabspeed mufflers that the drone will no longer exist?

POST 18Original post

I edited my post. I should never say Fabspeeds are too quiet, just that they are quieter than the Montys. At the track I run without cats, and with the Montys, the car was loud at any throttle setting. With the Fabspeeds, the car gets pretty quite when not accelerating. That's why I think it is odd that you have a serious drone when cruising. In my limited experience, cats are about as effective at muffling as the mufflers. (I've never heard sport cats). At the track, a car with stock cats and no mufflers sounds about as loud, but different tone, as my car with no cats and with mufflers. With the cost of cats, and assuming you still have the stock mufflers, the first thing I would try were I you is to go back to the stock mufflers. (If you still have the stock cats, you could try those with the Fabspeeds. It's very subjective. If you heard my car, you might think it was too loud. You might not. I don't have a radio in my car, so there is nothing to fight the sound of the exhaust.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Patrick, I appreciate your comments and my guess is my "too loud" car would be way "too quiet" for your taste UPDATE: I re-installed the stock cats and the only exhaust mods left on the car are the Fabspeed Mufflers, and they sound amazing - only loud when WOT, otherwise pretty quiet which I like. It gives just that right amount of sporty sound when accelerating, but now it will not draw any attention from 10 blocks away! I am going to see if I can return the sport cats to Fabspeed, those were NOT cheap. Anyways, I am hoping this might help some people out with exhaust ideas...the sport cats from Fabspeed DEFINITELY made a difference as far as throttle response goes but unfortunately, for me, just too loud and too much droning when cruising - thanks everyone for your help.

POST 20Original post

Greetings from Stillwater! Thanks much for posting your experience. Sorry it was so costly for you, but sure it was a lot of help to others around here. I am really interested in the Fabspeed muffler only, and it sounds just like what I want. Notice any drone with just the muffler?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The mufflers alone sound GREAT - just sporty enough and not obnoxious if you are just going around town - but decently loud when accelerating hard. You are more than welcome to meet me somewhere if you would like to test it out, it is not a small chunk of change as you know to install them! I would highly recommend doing it yourself to save on the extra $ for installation - otherwise I know a great guy at the local Midas here in Edina who could do it for about $150-$200 installed. Let me know if you would like to take it for a spin and see what you think - I am located in SW Minneapolis, basically Edina area - thanks for reaching out!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And to answer your drone question, little, if any drone, when cruising around 2K RPM but usual driving upwards of 2500 or more it sounds great. Highway driving, cruising at 75 MPH absolutely no drone whatsoever - and the little you might here is actually quite a nice sound. Before when I had the cats as well it was brutally loud in the cabin - night and day difference without the sport cats. Although I could feel that I lost a bit of power that the sport cats provided...but I don't mind.
